General Mach Discussion / 5 axis simultaneous
« on: February 09, 2023, 04:18:09 PM »
Standard XYZ Trunnion A and B rotary.

If I cut in indexed 5 axis mode, cuts perfect.

If I cut in 5x simultaneous mode, my B axis is off at end of program.  I don't use homing, I just use center of trunnion and make sure A is flat an B is square to X axis.

I'm 99% sure B isn't loosing steps, it's not a backlash problem.

One weird phenomenon is after program ends, I type Z10 in mdi, then X0Y0A0 in mdi and it moves at f50 which is what previous program calls. When I type B0 it's feedrate is like f1.... so type f50 B0 to return that to 0 position.

What should I be looking for?

General Mach Discussion / Cutting wrong dimensions in only one spot
« on: October 25, 2019, 01:14:56 PM »
Mach3, ESS Smoothstepper, Rhino5, Madcam.

I've tried backlash compensation on and off. Have my CV settings at .1, no other CV boxes checked. Tried IJ mode absolute and incremental. Talked with CAM developer about all settings.  Post is cutting with G2/G3.

I've played with motor settings. Tried cutting at 1IPM.... I'm stumped.

Pic shows what's going on. Black shape is what I'm trying to cut. Red shape is cut part measured on CMM. I'm always getting this deviation at around the 10 o'clock position no matter what I try. The toolpath is correct, I really believe it's something in mach3

General Mach Discussion / My spindle keeps shutting off randomly.
« on: February 08, 2015, 03:37:02 PM »
Running a ethernet SS, no rhyme or reason spindle will randomly shut off. VFD shows error of low voltage control.

Are there debounce settings in SS config... or any changes I can try in config to help?

When the issue is so random it's hard to trouble shoot

General Mach Discussion / backlash compensation in CAM
« on: September 29, 2014, 11:35:15 AM »
When I mill parts in Newfangled wizards they machine beautifully.

When I mill using my CAM package (Madcam) my 2d cuts are slightly rough.

I just had a thought. .. I'm using backlash compensation. .. is that not showing in my CAM post?

General Mach Discussion / driver needed for machining webcam
« on: March 16, 2013, 02:11:00 PM »
I purchased the machining webcam from CNC4PC, it says to just plug it in and driver will be found. My CNC computer isn't hooked up to the internet... and when I tried to plug it in on another computer I didn't have any luck.

I emailed CNC4PC, no response yet and I'm trying to get this running.

Anyone have a link or a driver I can download? Much appreciated.

SmoothStepper USB / backlash comp, debounce settings

Does the ESS grab them from Mach... or do you need to enter those values in the ESS window?

when you hit the spacebar for feedhold, it is very slow to respond. I didn't count... but probably 2 seconds.

BUT... when you hit cycle start after feedhold... my A axis starts moving... even though I have no A axis commands in this G code!

I'm using an IMach USB pendant. So far when I jog with the keyboard... everything seems fine.

When I use my IMach USB pendant... small .001" steps seem fine. When I spin the wheel for distance travel... it doesn't stop! I also have to restart Mach to get it to stop! When I hit the estop to stop it from traveling... and then turn estop back on it's like the move is in que and keeps going until Mach is restarted.

I'm using latest ESS driver, latest Imach driver, and Mach .066

SmoothStepper USB / ESS installation help before I break something!
« on: March 03, 2013, 03:17:07 AM »
I hooked the ESS up... and have been going through the installation. Everything has been going ok until this box pops up....

***I did not connect this to CNC machine. I was just installing this before I hooked it up to my machine. I don't know what I should click here? I'm afraid to mess up any settings!***

Downloaded Mach3 .66 on new computer.... then tried copying old XML, and put it in the Mach3 folder.

That didn't work... none of my old settings are in the new computer.

I then copied complete Mach3 folder from old computer... put it in new computer... still no old settings.

Why isn't my old XML taking? What causes that?
