SmoothStepper USB / Re: Smooth Stepper Port2
« on: March 12, 2010, 09:28:19 AM »
Ok sorry for the delay. I hooked up my switches to port 3 on the SS board and they work fine. Still nothing on the second port though.

XML is posted.

I have a new issue regarding my MPG.

My original setup was to run my A/B signals from the second port on the cnc4pc C25 BOB. Well as stated above I can't get any signals on port two. So I went to port one, which I know works, because this is where I have my servos connected and everything works fine. With the MPG hooked up on port one pins 11 and 12, all I get is a flicker every so often on the diagnostics page on the MPG1 DRO.

I'm using an external 5VDC power supply to power the MPG. So I thought maybe that was the issue. I then tried using 5V from the BOB to the + side on the MPG and ground terminal to the - side. Well this was even worse, no response at all.

I took my multimeter and checked the voltage at the back of the MPG and at the BOB and both read just over .8V

Something is screwy here and I can't seem to figure it out. Is it possible my MPG has gone bad?

I do have them set 2-9 as inputs. Do i need pull up resistors?

Hello, I'm using the SS and the C25 from cnc4pc.com

I can't seem to get any I/O's on port2. Is there somewhere you have to enable it?

Port1 works great. Port 2 is dead.

Thanks

What do you mean exactly by "SwapAxis?"

General Mach Discussion / Servo Humming
« on: March 05, 2010, 01:03:41 PM »
Hello, I'm finishing up my first Servo based CNC conversion on a Mazak 14x40 lathe. My question is my Z axis servo has a humming coming from it, that almost sounds like a heart monitor. It hums, then, its almost like its beeping, but very quietly. Is this normal for servos?

Specs:
Smooth Stepper with C25 BOB
Gecko G320x Drives
Mach3Lathe
Keling 850oz motors
72v 20A PSU

Thanks, Scott

PoKeys / Re: Pokeys with Mach Turn

I guess I should have updated.

I got the pendant working, I had a corrupt Mach XML. I reinstalled Mach and got a fresh XML and everything works, Sorta.

The MPG, like you all know is very very laggy with Pokeys. I spoke with the guy from cnc4pc.com and he said that they are working on something new for fast encoders which will solve the laggyness.

I'm using the motherboard with the 4axis pendant from cnc4pc.com. There are issues with the brains they supply, as far as the switches and jog on/off are concerned. I'm not gonna get into to much detail.

Ok I'm making progress. I got mach to recongnize pokeys. Now, about the brains. I downloaded them and put them in the mach brains folder. I have three. Two are EStop and one is jogging. Do I enable all of them? I tried enabling the jog and one estop but for some reason I can get out of "Estop button pressed"

I have a jumper wire right now to simulate an estop button. Any ideas?
