hi
first looked at the cabinet Hood thanks looked clean and well thought out. however you are on a bigger scale than me i want to do a machine that big one day when i said big box i didnt mean that big. i am posting pics for size and comparison. i usually use 5 volts for my signals but am not going that far to the limit switches and drives and i shield every input and encoders. on the heidenhain contol pictured the encoders are sinusiodal and report to the heidenhain computer directly the drives get there signal from the same i dont think i can reasonably replicate this so i am going to retrofit digital encoders onto the servos and replace the drives with vipers or dugongs. i am planning to reuse the orriginal power supply with some mods. the more i look at the cabinet i think i will have to put the computer into a box i am building on the arm as i will run out of space this will also settle any interference issue. and as a side note have you had any interference problems with a vfd this machine i probably going to get a vfd now do you think i should put it in the big cabinet or the little cabinet with the oiler and the mister to compleetly seperate it or am i worrying to much about interference. the fourth pic is of a hurco mill i am compleeting right now the cabinet shown is how i usually lay out a power cabinet thoughts suggestions welcome. rdean nice box technomatic corp if i am not mistaken is your computer planed to be in a computer case inside the cabinet like mine or with computer components mounted seperatly inside also how do you plan to cool the cabinet. one more question for hood the machine you showed what kind of drives are they and what kind of signal do they take. most of the time i have to scrap drives because i cant talk to them now because of what you showed me maybe i can talk to some of them thank you

General Mach Discussion / cabinet design

hi i upgrade mills usually bridgeport bosses with good results. now the question i have is cabinet design i am currently looking at a bridgeport with a heidenhain control usually an upgrade canidate has two cabinets i use one for computer and break out board control the other cabinet power supply and servo controlers i usually have/make a third cabinet for vfd drive. most if not all wires are shielded and grounded on one side also i use .1 uf caps on all inputs. now onto the question the machine i am looking at has one very big box on the right hand side and a smaller box in the back, the big box houses the original drives and the power supply, the little box houses the oiler and mister. the heidenhain computer is housed in the arm. i have my own box i will be adding to the arm however the computer will not be housed there. i am planning to put the computer in the big box. i have the option of making a power/drive box however i am looking at a very big box on the right and i could house all but the vfd in there i would house the vfd with the oiler and mister in the small box which would leave the power computer drives and bob. what i am woried about is em interference as drives can be noisy. on the other hand what do you do to shield for instance if i built metal dividers into the cabinet would this shield the computer from the drives. so do i build a third cabinet or dividers i would like to know if anybody has done this with good or bad results any thoughts or advise would be appreciated thank you mark cook
ps the driver will be dugong or vipers

PoKeys / Re: pokeys 56e need help
« on: December 07, 2011, 12:19:09 AM »
hi update for whoever reads this i finally had an apifany the cfg is the key number and the adress from there always starts with 0 so if i set up cft 2 with 2 inputs when adressing this from brain will be cfg 2 modbus adress 0 and 1 consectutively. however i can only get this to work on one computer and not the one that is going to be running the machine so i have decided to stop banging my head against the wall and go to a pokeys 56 usb so i can use port 10 and make my setup easier, having said that i think with a future plugin the 56 e will be a good board but not right now hope this helps

PoKeys / pokeys 56e need help
« on: November 25, 2011, 02:18:12 AM »
hello this is going to be a long post i may get typers cramp. anyhow i purchased a pokeys 56e downloaded microsoft .net framwork and installed everything was going well using the pokeys software communicated and tested outputs inputs ect now onto mach i installed the pokeys 56 plugin from the pokeys web site there is no documentation so i am not sure what the plug in is doing ? does it only config pins on pokeys device or does it link pokeys to mach ie ports and pins ? one thing i found out about the plug in is if you have the pokeys software running the plugin will not see the pokeys board from within mach. next i got tcp modbus working what exactly should be checked under ports and pins modbus input output support i have this checked now. modbus plugin supported i dont have this checked. tcp modbus support i have this checked. next i am able to get into setup tcp modbus and test i have the pokeys board plugged into a cnc4pc mother board with a cnc4pc m24 output board i have a bigger setup than this however i disconnected everthing else for ease of testing. now when i tested tcp modbus i was able to write 1 or 0 to pokeys and my outputs activated great i thought a little more experimentation and i would be set wrong i have not been able to get mach to talk to pokeys i did some reading and video watching tried different brains and configurations in ports and pins. so here is what i am not sure of ports and pins port 0 i supposed to be modbus i set port 0 ands just about every number i could thing to plug in to outputs and enables nothing has anybody got port 0 to work for them that is what i would really like to do. on the other hand you do what you have to so i proceded to write a few simple brains with modbus outputs this should have sent the signal to pokeys and my output board this didnt work either any help will be appreciated thank you  :)

hi
i was just looking over the instructions to the c19 the question i wouls ask is are you wired to pin 14 or 16 for step. i would suggest you hook up a 5k ohm pot which can be considered a volume control if you are not familiar with them you can get one from your local electronics store. the point is hook it up manually and see if you can control the speed this way once you get the speed control to work you can tackle mach and know the control is functioning. next call or email arturo cnc4pc he is very helpful and knowledgeable can be hard to get ahold of good luck

General Mach Discussion / reset tripping randomly
« on: July 11, 2011, 07:01:39 PM »
hi
i upgraded a bridgeport boss 8 and it has a few problems first i will describe the setup then the problems.
installed 1 smooth stepper used port 3 for mpg
installed 1 cnc4pc c23 dual port board
installed 3 viper 200 drives
installed 1 2hp vfd from automation direct
installed 1 mpg2 pendant from cnc4pc
i checked and reused the orriginal drive power supply.main estop is hardware estop kills power to machine and notifies mach.
all signal wires are shielded with the shield connected only on one side.
installed capacitors .01 mfd on all inputs
modified the orriginal brains from cnc4pc to run the pendant "all i really did was remove lines that apply to other pendants as this pendant doesnt have extra switches for more axises"
machine was running
had problem with spindle forward and reverse i believe i have solved this however mach wont switch between high and low by itself i need to change to the settings page and change it manually
now i try to mill and the machine will cut a random amount and stop then reset will flash. mach doesnt have an error so i dont know what is tripping the reset. also the viper drives have led's and reset switches hooked up these are not tripped. the vfd is not tripped.
so the main question is what would cause mach 3 to trip reset randomly
thank you
