Dave, I re-installed 3.43.10 as you suggested. I didn't have this issue. I am using the standard screen set. I then put 3.43.12 back on. My issue came back. I then with ver 3.43.12 ran Mach 3 with the new millstadard screen set and I still had this issue.

thanks, Jim.

I have loaded the newest ver. of Mach3 and am now having issues. I have tested this on two computers and ruled out the smooth stepper. When I load a program and the go into MDI mode, I type in G0X0, the program starts to run. Not good. Has anyone else had this issue? I guess I will need to install an older ver.

thanks, Jim.

General Mach Discussion / Re: 4th axis problems
« on: April 27, 2010, 12:53:47 PM »
It is possible that Mach3 is not configured correctly or the conrtol is bad. Also it is possible that motor wire comming out of the control for 4th axis is bad (open wire).  You may want to attach your configuration .xml file to this thread. I would also exchange the motor wires with another axis. You will need to rule out everything else befor the control unless you have an extra one.

Have tried Home & End keys on keyboard (they are assigned in Config), +4 & -4 on Tab out  pendant, and G0/G1 Aaaaa in MDI, no movement, yet motor is energized. How do I check for voltages at the A port on the drive, and what should they be? Thanks.

Ok, back up one step. Have you taken the X axis cable and moved it to the 4th axis yet? If not make sure that you turn your controller off first. If it will not jog when you jog the X axis it is a motor issue. If it does then further trouble shooting is needed. You still need to check the cable comming out of the box and your settings with Mach3. You may want to post your xml file for review here.

General Mach Discussion / Re: Simultaneous 4th Axis..

Bobcad V23 will wrap around the 4th axis. Insteady of posting out x or y axes the a axis can be posted with simulanious movements. You can also output all 4 axes if you just want to index with the 4th. I have inlayed 4 points into a cue that wrap around the front 360 degrees.

General Mach Discussion / Re: Help with Mack3 and Bobcad V23
« on: January 14, 2010, 06:56:09 PM »
That post for bobcad is intended for someone using work offsets and home switches. Try stripping the G54 commands out of your program or when you set your zero postions make sure that your work offsets are cleared out. I got tired of doing this so I removed the G54 from the post that Bobcad uses.

Let me know if this helps.

General Mach Discussion / Re: 4th Axis running to slow
« on: January 14, 2010, 09:17:39 AM »
When running my machine and have the 4th axis running it runs in snail mode you can barely see the thing turn a job that says it only takes 6 min to run is taking well over an hour. The funny thing is when i open the MDI screen and input G0 A360 it runs very fast but when the job is saying it is running at 15 IPM for cut feed the thing looks like it is barely moving can someone please help me out with this it is very frustrating.

If you command x or y axes at 15 IPM along with the A axis then Mach3 will run 15 degrees per minute. It is like a race. If you command X and A axes to go from point A to point B then Mach 3 will make sure they both get there at the same time. If A axis is running at 15 degrees a minute it will take a long time. Now this race is fare so no one wins or looses. In short command a feedrate of say 800 and see what happens. You will finde that your program will run better. X axis should not exceed set rapid speeds in your motor tunning area.

good luck, Jim.

Thanks Jeff, you are correct. When I originally posted, I didn't know that the smooth stepper plugin was causing my issues. When I tried to run program on another computer it worked fine. It took a couple of days to figure this out. I should mention that I had already moved my first two smooth steppers out to a couple of friends. I just recieved the third one when I found that the smooth stepper needed to be plugged in or run just regular pp.

thanks, Jim.

I think I have givured out what is wrong! I was using Mach3 as an emulator. If I attach the smooth stepper and let it load the software I don't have issues with sub programs. I am not sure why Mach3 won't run them while the smooth stepper is selected as the active port. This should be iscolated. Well knowing is half the battle.

thanks, Jim.

When I run Mach3 with the smooth stepper active my program will not run. It will generate the tool path the first time but I can't regenerate the tool path. When I cycle start the program I can't get past the M98 sub program call. If I load the same profile without the smooth stepper selected and by selecting the printer port my program runs and displays correctly. Does anyone have these issues or know what is wrong? The test code I used is as follows:

G0 X0 Y0 Z1 A0
M98 P100
G0 A 90
M98 P100
G0 A180
M98 P100
G0 A270
M98 P100
M30

O100
G1 Z -.125
G1 X5
G0 Z1
X0
M99

thanks, Jim.
