General Mach Discussion / Licensing issues

I cant figure it out. Last week I crash my computer in my garage ( the one that runs my baby mill and lathe). I purchase and install xp pro and reconfigure and reinstall the license from Mach rebuld xml's that I hadnt backed up etc. Everything is fine. Last night I try to run a NFS wizard, says I am unlicensed. I swear I had used that wizard before. I purchase license ( I cant find any record of an earlier purchase, not trying to dispute purchase either) and try to install the license. I have to load it onto a thumb drive for transfer. I simply copy it and paste it into my thumb drive. If I look at this file in my vista machine it shows as a DAT file (well it did before I? More on that in a minute). In my Xp machine it shows it as a media file? SO, I try to change what it opens with. I look at properties of the license while it is on my Vista machine and it says it opens with "Windows Shell Comm" and that is all I can read. Of course if I select "browse" to try to select something else or to identify the full name of what it opens with, Adobe 8.1 is highlighted (though it isnt what is used, I dont think). Somehow while trying to find what it opens with I have reselected what all of my mach related licenses open with. Now instead of saying DAT file if I scroll over the folder it shows adobe! All I really want to do is cut metal! Not F&*^ with bs computer stuff. Thanks for any tips, as long as it doesnt suggest a new hobby. Right when I am making progress on the machining computer issues move in. Obama promised change, is that what he meant?

Alenz
thanks for the help. I don't have a clue what I am doing. I am reading the Cnc programming handbook and trying to get a grasp. About the only thing I thought I understood was the bracketed area #100=[#100-.050] would imply 20 cuts per inch. If I try a gcode commenter certain terms are still vague at best. Could you edit my code (the lower one) to show the specific variable I should have inserted and where? Also I have just been inserting coordinates where I thought they should be. Lots of watching the dro's without the controller being powered up. If I wanted to radius the outside corner of any square corner (G1?) using G2 if path was clockwise using a cutter .2480 wide, what would I say?

Look in the "members docs" I believe the rule of the right hand will explain it. I personally thought it was laying on the table  looking up into Z?

I ran this code (something I have been screwing up). It did everything according to the plan until the 42nd time around and the z didnt lift when it was returning to its start point. I think it was going to start a finish pass sequence but I am not sure. I then wrote another program that worked well except I thought it was only cycling 41 times but apparently I am looking at the wrong thing?

Thaks for the suggestion on the screenshots saver. That is cool. Btw I got my new copy of Xp pro and wiped out all of my info! At least I now know what most of the settings in Mach do now!. On that note, always back up your info, I didnt. Of course this computer only runs my machines.

If you go to the 2nd screen, there is a dialog box at the bottom where you can enter MDI (Manula Data Input). If you type G0 X1 It will travel in the Y positive direction 1" or 1mm whichever unit of measure you have checked. G0 is a rapid movement, G1 a cutting move that also will need a feedrate or it will default to the last speed issued (I think that is the way I understand it. I know it might sound simple if you any experience running a machine, but to those from other fields these movements will be enlightening.

Well we will be seeing a bunch of each other posts in the near future I am sure. Have you figured out any commands for the MDI box? You can add single line commands.  Cya soon

NO WAY! Congratulations! You are going to sleep now? All this work and no play? Unless you know something about the next step, the fun has just started! I know I wanted to help you as I was just there a few months ago. Enjoy
