Newfangled Solutions Mach3 Wizards / Re: error set files missing
« on: February 26, 2012, 09:12:19 AM »
Ron, Thanks for the response. I actually opened the version on 1 of my computers to verify the turn wizards where there. Upon verification, I copied the entire NFS folder from my C/Mach3/turnaddons/NFS. I will try to load the whole folder from the download not from the existing one in my pc. If there is a problem, I can find out how to cause it. Thanks again

General Mach Discussion / Use of tools in a turret?
« on: February 25, 2012, 06:53:10 PM »
Today I am trying to load, understand and use the tool table on my lathe. I have a 6 position turret tool changer
I loaded 3 tools, a .375 Drill as the Master Tool, a left hand turning tool as #4 and a small boring bar as tool 6. No reason for this arrangement other than using the longest tool as the Master and starting somewhere.
I went thru the procedure as closely as I could like chapter 7 states in the manual. Though looking back thru my tool table editor the only thing I see is the tool number and name. It sounds like I missed something to set and or save the offsets on tools 4 & 6 and the master tool has no offset (at least that is the way I understood it). The tool offests numbers really confuse me for some reason.
When calling for tool 1 in the MDi line I just say T1 00 or T4 00. So far I have never followed the tool number with any positive number (though it is my understanding there are 256 offsets available, why I dont know but that is another day). I see some refer to it as T101 (tool 1 offset 1?) I am supposing T1001 would be tool 10 offset 1? Anyway I am guessing upon start up each day or job beginning you home your machine, in my case I do have limit/home switches on both axis' farthest from the chuck. I would think I would physically touch tool 1(Master) to the Z face and touch part 0. At this point all other tools in the turret are a known distance from the master, correct? How do I call out tool 4 to touch the face of Z on the same part? If I simply type in T4 00 in the MDI line the tool changes fine but no G##  I typed in would command a move. Seems really odd to me. I am really just trying to verify that i could touch a part and visualize the concept. Smids book is a little over my head so far. Any tips or help would be great!

I have mine working as of this week like you. I do however got the proper voltage output now though I think I fried a C6 in the process (or a chip in it). Oddly enough the way my Bardac drive is wired is supposedly incorrect according to anyone that reads the manual (some of who I know have extensive electronic backgrounds). But it is working just as it should. I am going to talk to the manufacturer just to verify my safety and use but like you and your voltage issue, it works right and I dont know why. Odd

I guess I should have asked. How can I fix it?

You are measuring it while running? That never worked for me. I was measuring the output from the speed controller but not hooking it up.

I have the NFS wizards on my mill and just read about the turn additions. I then verified it was working on my computer that had previously run NFS. It was. I then downloaded the wizards into a thumbdrive and extracted them into my C/Mach3/Turnaddons. I see the wizards but get the message. I have a licensed copy but if I remember correctly, I had this same issue loading the MSM stuff quite a while back. When I figure this stuff out it will be in my dreams as they are closing the coffin lid. ;D

First, check your battery on your meter to be sure, dont ask my how I know. Dont you have a pot on the C11? board to adjust the output voltage? When the pulley is set to 1000 and you command an S1000 you should get the maximum voltage output of the speed controller. This could be 10v or anything less than your supply voltage depending on the pot setting. In my case I noticed there was no gain in speed with any voltage above 7v so that is where I set my max. A command of S500 should give half the voltage given with your S1000. Btw though you must have discovered it, look in Start/Search/C drive (or wherever you keep Mach) and look for all .dat files. I deleted all of mine. Anyway glad to hear you are getting closer.

so if i set the pulley to 1000 and say s1000 on the mdi, i should get 10v at the bob vfd output right?
is there any parameter that could affect this ?

Nice to have a DRO but you should be able to calculate your steps per unit without it. IIRC, Hood likes to calculate it rather than use the calibration tool with Mach.

Going down in 50 rpm increments via S command, when does the rpm change? What was the max speed your spindle was doing on S1000?

Set your pulley speed to 1000 for setting up, then measure your speed when an S1000 command is given
