General Mach Discussion / Re: mach 3 troubles

I would go into the Mach screen first and verify how the spindle is controlled and that all settings are correct before I even contemplated a wiring change.

Pins 7,8 & 9 on your BOB control the VFD, Pin 5 & 6 are used if you have directional control (fwd/rev) in Mach. Nothing in your wiring has changed to make you suspicious of it, is there?

Have you physically shut everything down? Disconnected the PP cable while powered down, then reconnect everything? Do you get any axis movement via the jog or hot keys? Steppers resist or get warm?

Take pics of the system with your phone and post them here.

Btw, you arent the first to be dumbfounded by the spindle set up.

After rereading your entire thread, at no time do you disclose the equipment you have. Do us a favor and do so.

General Mach Discussion / Re: Touch Probe Help

Andy,

That particular probe is originally from Wildhorse Innovations (http://www.wildhorse-innovations.com/index.php?_a=viewProd&productId=80). It has been distributed world wide through a number of dealers and private labels. It has also been copied a number of times.

You can find more information, including alignment instructions at http://www.wildhorse-innovations.com/index.php?_a=viewDoc&docId=6.

Gary

Actually I think it was Arnie Minear's probe, marketed for a while by Wildhorse. He is a user here named Zarzul.

Do your other axis work?

If so what happens if you swap drivers or steppers from another axis?

What is your motor tuning for the A axis?

Rotational soft limits set on the gen config page?

A axis set to angular?

Of just a single axis? Or all? And why?

Btw, I would think yes as to changing it for all axis simultaneously. Not sure of the ability with a single axis.

Typically steppers are 1.8 degree or 200 steps per rotation. If you are using 1/4 micro stepping, it should have been 800 steps per unit (200 x 4). If you did reset it to 1/16 (which would give you an unachievable resolution) it would need a 3200 steps per unit. This does not take into account any additional gearing.

Sorry just noticed on your last post that your steppers are .9 degree, so that would make the above calculations need to be doubled. If you are at 1/16, 6400 steps would be correct.

How odd is that? I tried to edit my post a few times and kept getting an error message. Odd that as soon as I copied and pasted it, it went thru.
