General Mach Discussion / accel and velocity

You never answered in regards to backlash. After you got your distances traveled correct did you measure for backlash? Do you have it entered and enabled? What % is your arc slow down set to? Do you have CV or Exact Stop selected?

Do you have a star point or star ground? I fought noise issues in my limit switches for a long time until I connected the VE- (in my case off of the cap of my power supply to the star point also along with the earth ground). Prior to that single connection, I had tried everything, capacitors, resistors connecting the shields at one and or both ends or none at all. Nothing helped until that wire was connected. Now that that wire is connected, the shields dont seem to matter ( I do have them connected to the star point only, but I tested them without just out of curiousity). I have laid the limit wires close to stepper and power wires while running code, no errors. I am running a debounce of 100. I could probably go less but that should stop any stray signals. Btw I never could see the triggering on the diagnostics page unless I was statically testing the switch circuits.

You are not having to press the reset button within Mach after physically pressing an Emergency switch hooked directly to your G540? What version of Mach are you running? Have you updated it lately and possibly installed a version that might have a bug?

You mention you replaced the DB9's from the EZ G540 db9's? Did you install a current set resistor? Is your estop connected to the G540? Not just an estop thru Mach is it? I personally like a contactor but some act like smaller machines don't need it. Due you have the charge pump enabled? This will stop any motion from occurring if the computer is not on or Mach isn't running though the machine is on IIRC.

I am just north of the Woodlands. I have a few machines (manual and Cnc) and could possibly help. Have you looked into the Houston Hackerspace meetings? They have quite a large building with quite a few tools and people willing to help. The have free meetings on Friday nights IIRC. Very close to MinuteMaid Park.

General Mach Discussion / Use of tools in a turret?

I wasn't going to correct you though the spelling error bothered me from the first story. Lupe is a common Latin name, not Luppie. Does Delaware have many Lupe's or Luppie's? I don't know how you found where your tools were. ;-)

I just want to say a big thanks to Rich (not trying to offend you Hood as you both save me more than I can ever repay). However after repeated attempts to understand and implement a successful retouch of the called tool to the area I desired, I wasnt getting it. Rich called me and after telling me where Lupe parked his car on the middle of the football field, I got it! I dont know how but it worked. I presently have 3 tool in the turret all going where I tell them, when I tell them. Cool.  I will definitely have to practice resetting it a few times to confirm my understanding. Rich you now know how frustrated my teachers must have been! A big thanks to you and everyone else who tried. What a wonderful resource.

Russ, thanks for the help. Does my use of a Smoothstepper change anything about the location?
