Have you run this machine before? Or is this the first time ? Experience with Mach?

182
But did you check step/ dir motor?

In spindle set up, uncheck PWM, and check step/dir motor, apply, ok. That is how mine is set up. Mine is a Sherline with Homanns speed controller. It will either work or it wont. If it doesnt, change it back and wait for Jeff.

Why don't you use the calibration option on the settings page of Mach (alt 6). its just above the RESET button. Mach will do all the calculation for you, just follow the instructions. Use a digital vernier clamping the fix jaw to the table and use a bar in the collet to move the sliding jaw, just make sure you move the correct way as you don't want to wreck your vernier. I did this and got perfect dimensioning.  Do a trial away from the table as you need to check what Mach has defaulted to Metric/imperial before you touch the vernier.

Though this will work, if you dont understand how the units are calculated you will can get into trouble regardless of the units of measure. Use the calibration tool after you have got the basic set up close.

I am not sure what your driver setting means. Are you meaning 1/16th micro stepping (200 x 16 =3200). If that is the case your step per unit value is 200 x 16 x 10 (tpi)=32000 steps per unit.

Btw, I ran this one for a while but it would always slip at a critical time (arent they always?) and break the bit or ruin the part, most likely both. It was a simple design and seems like it should have worked. It was a well made piece. I tried all of the different springs etc. I was trying to machine metals not plastics or woods etc.

How fast do you need your spindle to turn?

What materials are you cutting?

Tool changers on little machines are either home built or really expensive usually.

Just a high speed spindle? Here are pages of them on EBay.

Here is a fantastic build by Joe Vicars.

Usovo's version which I think is also carried by IMService.

I think I have dyslexia, it is "swap axis" maybe?

I believe it is a feature called "axis swap". Never used it or really read up on it. I think Hoss used it a bit when using his mill as a lathe. I would likely just have 2 profiles for the different processes.
