General Mach Discussion / Re: I can't get my xbox control to work
« on: March 26, 2009, 08:20:46 AM »
Ok, I finally got some movement. Obviously now it's a matter of configuring the ports and pins because the xbox controller will allow it to jog some axis', but not do everything it's told. On mach screen, it says y is moving but it's not, X only jogs in one direction, etc. So, is configuring the ports and pins just a matter of clicking "enable" on certain things? This is very confusing. I emailed the guy I purchased it from and asked about xml. Am I on the right track?

Thank you Rich. I appreciate your help.  The joystick and shuttle pro were enabled, so I'll disable them and try. I haven't done anything with enabling the Estop, or configured the ports and pins. This might be the reason it's not working. They are stepper motors, and the kind gentleman I bought the router from included the configuring formulas for the steps/inch. I just was confused when I looked in the Mach config pulldown, I couldn't find out where to apply these figures.
I may have been a little excited and hurried  through too fast!

I am new to this, and am in the process of trying to make my cnc router move.  I added xbox 360 plugin, Mach 3 recognizes the xbox controller, I configured the buttons, and no movement. No messages or anything. The Zenbot driver is turned on, everything's plugged in. I havent configured the steps/inch yet, mabye thats it? I couldn't figure out how to configure the steps/inch settings. I have the numbers, just don't what to do with them. Thank you for any help you can give, I really appreciate it.

Thanks for that. I will check into it as I continue to get sucked deeper and deeper into this technological craziness! It's been very helpful.

Well, I learned of dxf files, which to my understanding are pre made programs that need converted to g code via cam or related software. I guess this is what I was referring to. They call it dxf art or dxf graphics. There seems to be endless designs in  dxf art. I never used this but would like to know how it works. I see Vectric has a ton of this and if you have any of their programs, you can just purchase a dxf image of whatever you want, and it will convert it to g code for you so you can machine the image. If I am wrong about any of this, someone please correct me. Thank you for your help.

I'm very new, and forgive me, but I want to know if there are pre made programs out there. Like designs and shapes(celtic knots, crazy figures, trees, whatever) already created, wrote up, and for sale. Like say you just bought a file or assortment of files, skipped the cad/cam process, and it was ready to pop into mach 3 and go. Don't get me wrong, I'm not lazy and I like playing with cad/cam, but was wondering about this from a business standpoint. I'm sure something like this must exist, I just don't know what the name for this is and where you find them. I appreciate any help you can give me. Thank you.

Yeah. The xbox deal looks like it could be a winner. You can't beat the cost. I may end up doing that. It looks like it could be similar to a Shuttlepro. I would love to setup a 100 mpg pendant, but it looks like unless I install another parallel port, or learn what a Mod IO is, it ain't happening. I'll keep researching.

Yeah, I actually did cruise by your site earlier this evening. I'll go back again and take another look. My first impression was your stuff seemed very high quality and mabye more industrial applicable. I'm a beginner with a small cnc router, and am in the process of getting it set up. I'm still awaiting the cad/cam software to arrive in the mail. I'll need a lot of guidance no doubt in the future. I forgot to mention that I am not familiar with Modbus or Mod IO. I only know what a parallel port and usb port is. I am not acquainted with any physical modifying of a computer.
