PoKeys / Re: Firmware problems 57E
« on: February 08, 2018, 12:19:23 AM »
Hi, Azalin

What is the reason for requiring 4.1.2 firmware? The older firmware versions are available to OEMs that have implemented functions specific to a certain firmware.
The latest PoKeys firmware should be the best choice both in reliability and feature set.

The manual I listed contains also general information and exactly the information you are requesting - see pages 14 and 15.

The only difference is that PoKeys57U has weak pull-up resistors to 3.3V and you can add external 10k pull-ups to +5V if the sensor requires.

PoKeys / Re: Pokeys57 shared data

If you enable the exchange of shared data in both ways in Pokeys plugin options, you can just write to the OEM DRO and data will be sent to PoBlocks. Note that there is a limited number of shared slots that can be used this way and this should be indicated in the settings.

Note that this is not the official support channel from PoLabs - if you have a question, contact us by opening a ticket on the support page!

Regarding your question - see the manual Mach4 and PoKeys57CNC - step by step guide.pdf (2.55 Mb) (https://www.poscope.com/wp-content/uploads/downloads/Pokeys/LibrariesAndPlugins/Mach4%20and%20PoKeys57CNC%20-%20step%20by%20step%20guide.pdf). It contains the description on how to wire proximity switches to PoKeys devices.

PoKeys / Re: Does Pokeys 57E support more than 4 axis in Mach4?

Hi, Craig

It is indeed a serial-in parallel-out buffer (there are a few more details in Pulse engine docs available under Download section at PoLabs homepage).

Pulses are generated differently when used with 'Internal pulse generator' vs. 'External pulse generator'. Anyone that follow the development of features of PoKeys devices can see that we try to implement as many features in the devices themselves and it was the same case here. Unfortunately, due to pin compatiblity requirement between USB and Ethernet versions, more axes with the internal pulse generator were simply not possible and external board was offered for our general purpose I/O devices (PoKeys57U and PoKeys57E), while the PoKeys57CNC has it already built-in.

ps: there are also not enough pins on the PoKeys57E to connect all 8 axes (with step, dir, enable signals and inputs for limit and home switches...) and have anything else connected to the device - PoKeys57CNC has all those, signals for LCD, pendant, encoders, analog signals, relay and OC outputs...  and both USB and Ethernet  :)

PoKeys57E with internal pulse generator: 3 axes
PoKeys57E with external pulse generator (PoExtBusOC16CNC extension): 8 axes

PoKeys / Re: Pokey 57CNC Analog Output

If the output voltage changes when you change the minimum spindle speed settings, then the device and the plugin are correctly configured and there is an issue with Mach4 configuration. Post a picture of the spindle setup page from Mach4 config dialog.

All pins of the PoKeys57U are listed in the PoKeys user manual - https://www.poscope.com/wp-content/uploads/downloads/Pokeys/Manuals/PoKeys%20user%20manual%20(19.8.2017).pdf (see pages 12-16). Electrical specifications table on page 21 provide all information you are looking for.

There is one type of pins in PoKeys57U and E devices - 3.3 V digital inputs and outputs that are 5 V tollerant for digital input signals (analog inputs still go 0-3.3V).

This was implemented intentionally and warns you that your connection will not result in reliable operation of the CNC machine.

You can try connecting the device to a different USB port on your PC. In some cases, putting a standard USB hub between the PC and the device will solve the problem.

PoKeys / Re: About threading and noise problem for Pokey 57CNC

Unfortunately, threading operation is not supported in Mach3.
