General Mach Discussion / continuous motion and tangential cutting problem
« on: November 17, 2010, 12:30:44 PM »
hi

i use my cnc to cut with a knife with tangential motion on, and the feed rate is very fast compared to milling. what i notice is that the motion stops at each point, or code line, and then starts again, resulting in the machine shaking.

i wonder if anyone knows how to get continuous motion so that the axes move wit smooth flowing motion?

another problem i cannot solve is that for tangential knife cutting the knife will spin (A axis) in the material at what appears to be random times - it generally works fine, and only seems t do this once per cut-out shape.

many thanks.

thanks for your help simpson, i will have a look at these.

I need to tangential knife cut cardboard shapes from vector artwork imported from graphics applications. i have tried exporting a vector image from adobe illustrator as a dxf file and reading it through lazycam but i do not get a very good result.  the curves generated are all wrong, and the machine seems to jump from point to point around a curve, causing a lot of juddering and vibration, instread of cutting with a smooth motion. sometimes i don't get a curve at all but a 'join the dots' effect made up from small straight lines.

does anyone have experience of this and know of a better system to use? many thanks.

hi hood

the toggle works but when i close the g code file it sometimes turns the tangetial control off, and sometimes doesn't!  this is using the same gcode file and it appears to happen at random.  then next time i load a g code file the toggle works in reverse since it is turning the tangential control on instead of off.

is there a way to turn it either on or off rather than toggle, so that you know for sure than you are utrning it on and off, and not just switching based o the current state?

many thanks

thanks hood, i will try that out.

Many thanks.
