I been gone for a long time but I happen to have this Servo 8000 lathe for over 10 years. I love this little machine, if it were a girlfriend I'd hug and kiss it daily. Everett R is still kicking it in Kansas. He was a huge help keeping this machine running and he still helps till this day. I'm using the all original one liner CNC control but its so bullet proof I don't want to change it. Always think long and hard about an upgrade to AC servo but for now its works just fine. If you get the bar feeder working right you can take a nap and all your parts will be in a bin when you wake up. A slick piece of work for its day.

I hope A1 CNC still has his machine chugging along.

So I installed the DMM AC servo drives and motors over the weekend. I have never had anything slam dunk like this system. Overall I am very impressed! Other than some tuning which we all know can be a hoot for servos, art versus science lol, I am already making chips.

Feel free to PM if you want to learn more about my experience. Not sure I'll every go back to steppers again although they were a great learning tool for the newbie.

Just bought an Antek DC power supply that puts out 48 volts at 400 watts for my digital Leadshine drives with a Nema 24 and 34 stepper motors. Man what a speed difference for rapids. Damn near doubled max speed on my lathe and I have not stalled yet. Not sure just how fast I can go but I was turtle speed before cause I geared down almost 4 to 1 on X & Z. If I get 16 to 20 IPM with this system I'll be pretty happy.

Just got a new AC servo system from DMM technology out of Canada still in the box. It cost me a few bucks but I am excited about the speed and accuracy it will achieve. Should be fun. Most likely transition it to a mill project but it gets tested on the lathe first. I will have to report out to the forum just how well these AC, 3 phase, synchronous motors perform. Compared to the big name servos these must have been around 20 to 30% less cost. Heard good things so said what the hell its only money.

You can't be a pres or a king cause they are too busy to play with Mach and that would make the king very unhappy. Nice thing you did helping this chap out but then you always help people, like a real "Robin Hood" a legal one, lol.

It's easy to calculate thread pitch. Either count the number of threads per inch if standard or mm per revolution with calipers (how much the nut moves with one complete turn). Most Asian screws will be fairly standard pitches like 2-5 mm or something even. Also measure with calipers center to center of each thread. You gotta know this going in brother. Program can calculate it but don't depend on software 100%.

So far have not heard from anyone close or at all  really...still have hope there is a few tinkerers in this area. I did discover a guy doing Centroid retro fits and CNC repair calls out of Orange County.

Tangent Corner / Saw "Yaskawa Drive" at a trade show

Saw a Yaskawa rep. and a few drives this week at a local automation fair. The Junma Series has me drooling a bit. Lower cost AC servo, 100 thru 750 watts with step and driection input option. I could learn to like this hardware! I assume this would easily adapt to Mach. Plugs into a wall socket, AC 110V. Easy button?

Nice work! I am special Ed/G-code for dummies level, so can someone explain what that G54 does? I have only wrote G code for the lathe and all that was self taught reading self help books.
