General Mach Discussion / Pins and Jogging
« on: April 28, 2006, 01:34:44 PM »
Hi,I know it's possibelt to use the pins to control jogging; is there a way to use a pin to change the jog mode('continuous' versus 'step')?
Also,is there a way to use the alloted input pins for such things as this and other things like limit switches ,in a binary mode so 5 inputs could become 32?-Keith

General Mach Discussion / Digitizing Probe.Any hints?

Hey people.I just bought one of these babies : http://www.cadcamcadcam.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=10
Anyone know any short cuts to getting her up and running.Documentation was slim.
Dying to try out the 'digitizing wizard' with it in M3.-Keith

Is 'Feed Hold' in Mach3 the same as 'pause'(in Mach2)?
And 'Reverse Run' is this like doing a 'climbing mill' cut of what you were otherwise 'cutting normally' using the g-code that is loaded in the 'program run' page?-Keith

General Mach Discussion / On recpocket wizard

Just a note; on the rectangular pocket wizard(Brian/Kiran) the finish pass goes positive rather than where it's suppose to be.I had to go in and put a '-' in the g-code to make the final pass.I used a climb final pass for mine.Haven't tried it with a 'standard' pass.First part works fine however.-Keith

General Mach Discussion / Modified pocket wizard?
« on: March 28, 2006, 11:24:46 AM »
I've fooling around a lot with the wizards lately and I was wondering if there was a way to use the 'circular pocketing' one to modify the portion of a radius involved in the cutting.Picture a 2" hole already cut out(no material) and at the edge of this cut out,I'd like to pocket a concentric (negative)lip around the circumference of the 2" cut out.So I would begin or end at the center of the circle.Just a pocket of a portion of the circle.I know the other ways to do this but in this case a spiraling pocket would be sweet.Thoughts?(yeah I could write the code for this but I'm digging these wizards)-Keith

General Mach Discussion / Recpocket Wizard

Hi,I was starting to play with the wizards in Mach3;in the rectangular pocket wizard(Brian/Kiran),I plugged some of my numbers in and inspected the G-code and I can see there are some relative offsets done by the wizard but not what I expected. When designating tool size and x/y position, are we to calculate this ourselves first?(I was using a .125 end mill) and does 'depth' follow a neg/pos for however the machine is set up or is there an assumption of which way is standard(I cut into my piece with a -z)-Keith

General Mach Discussion / Still, jog problems
« on: February 28, 2006, 11:42:00 AM »
Ok,I have been using the 'tab' to open the jog screen in 'program run' in Mach3.I thought it was when using the 'diagnostic screen' that caused me the problem of being able to jog in a 'step' mode(the continuous mode always works). So when I started using this tab jog,the step mode did work but again today,I went to use it in Program run and again the step does not work. Now I'm sure something's funky. It always worked reliably in Mach2.As I said,'continuous' always works;'step' sometimes works.I'm in the Sherline mode and the reason I mention this is because I thought maybe the pulse length could somehow effect the ability to 'step' ...I don't know...maybe some over shoot or something...just 'grabbing at straws'.Tried different increments as well.-Keith

General Mach Discussion / DRO change
« on: February 25, 2006, 03:13:52 PM »
Hi,when I go into the diagnostic page of Mach3 to do a little jogging and 'zero' some coordinates, when I retuen to the 'program run' page the settings have changed and I can't get back my coordinates(even if I go back to 'diagnostics'). The number change looks pretty arbitrary.-Keith

General Mach Discussion / Jogging in Mach3
« on: February 24, 2006, 04:13:51 PM »
I just started to use the 'jog' function in Mach3 and found it on the diagnosis window(only there ,right?).'Continuous' works but step is not working.Used this function before with this machine and Mach2 with no problem.Any suggestions?-Keith

General Mach Discussion / Rotary moves
« on: February 23, 2006, 11:48:58 AM »
My 'g-coding' is coming along nicely. On many compound moves that also contain an 'a-axis' move ,I get reasonable velocity.I was under the impression that I could do a g01 'a'-n alone and could get the speed up...but that doesn't happen even with a rather large 'F'.So I went back to a little test code that Brian showed me to check repeatability on the a-axis.His code just said: 'a'-n(no G-anything)alone on a 'block'; and the axis screams(in a good way) and bingo, right on the money in terms of repeatability. Is saying just : 'a'-n equivalent to a G0 for this axis?
