General Mach Discussion / max power from vfd
« on: April 01, 2012, 10:41:28 AM »
Hi,
if you have a 3 phase motor running off an inverter, what frequency is the maximium torque generated at?
for example i have a 3 phase 230v motor rated 2800 at 50hrtz.
is max torque at 100% 50hrtz or at 80% (40 hrtz) ?

Yes i read putting a large cap across the output draws to much inrush current and can lead to the switchmode kicking out.

General Mach Discussion / switch mode or linear?
« on: March 11, 2012, 12:21:59 PM »
Hi I have always built my power supplies with toroidal transformers and whacking great caps,2 reasons firstly because you can suck more instant power out of a toroid and secondly ive been told that switch modes can give of some frequencies that can mess with servo drives ect. But, swich modes are very competitivly priced if your looking for 24 or 36 volts. Can I just put a whacking great cap on the out put of one to make it more suitable?

well I linked everything up in a star config and that seems to have sorted it

General Mach Discussion / 0 volt grounding and wierd random servo faulting
« on: February 12, 2012, 08:41:51 PM »
Hi, Ive been getting some really random faulting on my g320's on all axis. All 3 are are identical and they are all tuned really nicely, theres bags of power and it makes no differance if I up the multiplier or gain settings or error limit.
I have caps on the power feed to the heds encoders as recomended by gecko, and plain twin core  ,I do have shielded  (earthed controller end) a&b lines the only thing I havnt done is connect the 0v on the computer to the 0v on the servo power supply or specifically to earth, could this be the problem? the machine runs great and dosnt miss steps, its not running flat out and I have no reason to doubt the step pulse.just these totally random intermittant trips - weird!
cheers Tony.

General Mach Discussion / Re: g320x gain dips

I would expect gecko to explain the settings on there product yes! for the sake of an extra line, this is the 5th cnc build ive done using 320x's and I know exactly what pid is thank you,
and I tune the drives by ear and never had any issues.
