Hi,

Is there any thing I should be aware of,any hints/tips problems?

General Mach Discussion / max power from vfd
« on: April 01, 2012, 10:41:28 AM »
Hi,
if you have a 3 phase motor running off an inverter, what frequency is the maximium torque generated at?
for example i have a 3 phase 230v motor rated 2800 at 50hrtz.
is max torque at 100% 50hrtz or at 80% (40 hrtz) ?

General Mach Discussion / switch mode or linear?
« on: March 11, 2012, 12:21:59 PM »
Hi I have always built my power supplies with toroidal transformers and whacking great caps,2 reasons firstly because you can suck more instant power out of a toroid and secondly ive been told that switch modes can give of some frequencies that can mess with servo drives ect. But, swich modes are very competitivly priced if your looking for 24 or 36 volts. Can I just put a whacking great cap on the out put of one to make it more suitable?

General Mach Discussion / 0 volt grounding and wierd random servo faulting
« on: February 12, 2012, 08:41:51 PM »
Hi, Ive been getting some really random faulting on my g320's on all axis. All 3 are are identical and they are all tuned really nicely, theres bags of power and it makes no differance if I up the multiplier or gain settings or error limit.
I have caps on the power feed to the heds encoders as recomended by gecko, and plain twin core  ,I do have shielded  (earthed controller end) a&b lines the only thing I havnt done is connect the 0v on the computer to the 0v on the servo power supply or specifically to earth, could this be the problem? the machine runs great and dosnt miss steps, its not running flat out and I have no reason to doubt the step pulse.just these totally random intermittant trips - weird!
cheers Tony.

General Mach Discussion / carefull using T5 belts/pulleys
« on: February 06, 2012, 01:59:21 PM »
T5 belts and pulleys are not suitable for cnc drive systems.
I just had to replace them on mylatest build with 5M .
the problem is that the t5 system has backlash or clearence between the pully and belt tooth form.

General Mach Discussion / g320x gain dips
« on: February 05, 2012, 06:56:29 PM »
hi,
could some one please explain the gain settings on the g320x ?
theres alot of them !
does it alter the atrest cain? i thougt pid settings did that?
does it alter amps to motor,I thought the torq limit did that?
any Ideas as gecko seem reluctant to explain.

General Mach Discussion / A couple of questions re servo's
« on: December 28, 2011, 11:06:02 AM »
Hi and Merry Christmas/happy new year!
firstly I'm doing a bf20 conversion using gecko 320x drives. my x an y are 24 volt and my z is 36 volt.
I have a 36v powersupply and I'm thinking as long as i don't try and run the 24volt servos past there rated rpm at 24 volt I should be OK powering them from the 36 volt power supply?
Also fat32 or ntfs whats the best for mach? I know audio recording software works better with fat32 because it writes in realtime rather than blocks ala NTFS,would this be an advantage ?
Finally (for now) how have you guys got around the limeted space on the y axis when fitting ballscrews?

General Mach Discussion / sharp 10.4 screen
« on: November 21, 2011, 09:04:45 AM »
Hi I have just aquired a sharp LQ104s1dg21   10.4" colour  screen.
I would like to use it in my mill enclosure.the problem is im not sure on how to wire it up,there are plenty of pdf's with the pin outs on one of which i have attached, and i am assuming its vga or svga?
could some one please have a look into this and point me in the right direction?
  Thanks in advance
