I like the price of the Lite board!

^^^ Correct, but the encoder cout will be too high for Mach3, 2,000 count X 4 = 8,000 counts per turn.  You can use it if the drives have a multiplier.

General Mach Discussion / Dual spindle machine control?
« on: February 21, 2007, 08:42:47 PM »
How would I make this happen:

On the machine there are two spindles one with a endmill and another one with a drill, the drill has it's own Z travel by this I mean, the drill moves up and down with the endmill spindle but it also has a air cylinder the moves it up enough so when the endmill is down the drill is above the material.  How would I make a post file to first drill a hole and then have the endmill start from that location?  How do I get Mach to actives the air cylinder to drop the drill and use the Z axis to make the hole then lift the drill then put the endmill in the hole with the same Z axis and cut away?

Thanks

Dennis

You will need some logic like this to get you drives doing with Step/Dir signals.

Got it!  So these are regular drives that take CW +/- and CCW +/- .  The drives that I have can run both modes CW/CCW and step/dir so I didn't look in to making a cuircuit for the CW/CCW inputs.  Maybe your drives can be configured to run step/dir if not, then you need one of these or similar chips here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_4000_series_integrated_circuits.  You just need a IC to switch pins based on the direction pin output from your BOB.

I just briefly looked trough the manuals , and it looks like they can be used for positioning control by negative command pulses and positive, they also have encoders for feedback.

So the drive uses one pin to step the motor foward and back based on + or- input?

What if you have a M code at the end of the program that calls a popup window that ask you if you want to shut off the compuer and if no answer in 1 minute it kills everything.
