General Mach Discussion / Spindle orientation
« on: September 18, 2006, 05:30:16 PM »
Hi all,

can any body give me any idea how to orientate a lathe spindle and lock it in position, a bit like a tool changer on a mill dose.  The motor is DC and has a index pulse for surface speed.  I have worked out how to lock the spindle but how do I get it to stop in the same place every time.  On industrial mills you can call M19 to orientate the spindle and then it is locked magnetically I think.

All ideas welcome, but the simpler the better.

Graham.

I came across this today, thought it may be of interest to somebody.

It converts images to CAD.

G-Code, CAD, and CAM discussions / Polite request
« on: June 06, 2006, 02:57:20 PM »
Dear Brian & Art,

would it be possible to add U,V and W to Mach3 turn, the X,Y and Z incremental moves are a major part of turning code.  Also could we have I,K and R automatic chamfer and radius.

This may seem petty but Mach3 mill is very comprehensive and turn seems to get the raw end of the deal.

Thanks

Graham.

G-Code, CAD, and CAM discussions / U,W supported?
« on: May 24, 2006, 05:31:49 PM »
HI,

I think this if for Brian,

I have just run my very first program on my mini lathe.  This is the program (not long not elegant)

G18 G21 G00 G94 G40
G00 X47. Z1.
G01 X30.5 F30.
G00 X46. W.25
G01 Z-16.9
G00 Z1. U.25
X60. Z50.
M30

Mach3 Turn is ignoring the U and W commands.

This is my question :-

is W and U not supported or has it to be used in a special way or have I something set wrong?

For those out there that don't know what I am talking about a 'U' is an incremental X move and 'W' is an incremental Z move

Also is automatic chamfer and radius supported?

E.G.

G00 X20. Z0
G01 X30. K-.25 (auto chamfer)
Z-10.

or

G00 X20. Z0
G01 X30. C.25 (auto chamfer)
Z-10.

and

G00 X20. Z0
G01 X30. R-.25 (auto radius)
Z-10.

Thanks

Graham.

General Mach Discussion / Mini Lathe speed control
« on: May 15, 2006, 06:12:02 PM »
Hi All,

I have just got myself a CNC mini lathe, it has no spindle control so I was wondering if any body can tell me of an interface card that would allow me and Mach3 to do this with the existing built in variable speed controller, its part number is FC150BJ/230V

Any help would be great.

Thanks

Graham.
