If you want reliability and quality you cant get better than PMDX, that is just my opinion however so take it as you wish :-)

Yeah, Steve does make fantastic products.  Very nice guy to talk to at the shows also...

I have CNC4PC products and they have been good to me.

General Mach Discussion / Why use a Motion Controller?
« on: February 12, 2012, 07:36:24 PM »
Galil, Ajax, etc...  What do you gain?  I understand that the loop gets closed back to the controller, but this still isn't quite the same as the closed loop on "real" VMC's.  So why spent the extra money?  A Galil 5 axis is running like $1500.  Seems that you also have to consider the plug-in here and not knowing how well it is debugged and if it will even be updated for future releases of Mach.

Hi,

I am currently doing a series 2 CNC machine with the Ajax set up.
Not running yet, but should be in a couple of months.

The only knee mill that BP made with a tool changer was very unreliable.
The BP service guy who I spoke with told me that the thing would throw
the tools.  Maybe you can solve the issue it had.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Scott

Chris,
Thank you for your generosity sharing your experience.
Your document should help me greatly with my lathe.

Wow.  Fantastic build.
Thanks for sharing.

General Mach Discussion / Re: BobCad w/ Mach ?

I have used it for a year+.
It has it's share of problems, but it gets the job done for my
2-1/2 D toolpaths.  You need to hand edit the code a bit.
Not the easiest software to learn as the seem to do things
a bit weird.  But it does work.

Looks fantastic Dave!!!

It now machines just fine, at 30 IPM with a 1/2" HSS 2-flute, and 75 IPM with a 1/2" carbide 3-flute, even with no coolant.

Ray L.

Can you tell us the RPM's you are running?
Maybe what kind of cut depths you are running?

It will probably help some of us a lot if we run into a similar
situation.

Thank You,
Scott

All I intended to do was discourage the use of kerosene as a coolant in some raw newcomers shop and burn his shop/house down.

And right you are.
