Reverse run was fixed some time after 43.22. ('twas yours truly that asked B to fix it).

Prior to that on arcs it worked once first time but thereafter it wandered off and did a mirror image of the arc. That said AFAIK it didn't and still doesn't fire macros but I'm not sure it makes sense to do so.

OK I was assuming it was direct drive but now I see you have reduction. Anyway it seems from all you've said you may have one or more of:

scewed gantry, backlash, steps/per issues.

I'd tackle these ONE at a TIME in that order. ONLY when you're happy move onto the next one.

but the gears on the machine (that the motor gears contact) are a plastic, not a metal.
You mean the racks? You sure? Please say t'aint so...

Which is the double spur gear and how do they set it to be out of phase? Asking so I can attempt to check it.
Well in their blurb they state "anti-backlash rack n pinion". Often this is acieved by having two gears on the same shaft mating with the rack, then one gear is rotated slightly with reference to the other which reduces the backlash that is inherent in all (AFAIK) r&p setups. Not saying this IS how they've done it - there are other ways - 'twas just a suggestion. - Still trying to get my head around plastic r&ps on a machine listed for $18.5K.

if it's one of these (a link to what you have always helps) then I suspect they may be using the old double spur gear slightly out of phase ploy to reduce backlash on the r&p. You may find that one of them on one side has slipped or was not set up right. Worth checking anyway.

Nice one Hood

As you've found, it's difficult to post tagged content when you're trying to describe it (rather than have it executed). Just as a tip you could do it like this

Code: [Select]
[flash=520,315]http://www.youtube.com/v/6s5oP2ihMuQ?hl=en_US&version=3[/flash]

i.e. put it in code tags (the hash button) and then it doesn't get translated. (if you get my drift)

this link might give you a simple overview as to where you're thinking of going. As has been said, Mach is not fitted for this and LinuxCNC may be a way to go.

I think this would be great fun to do if you have the time and the money. However IMHO if you follow this route I think you're in for a journey that would make building a cartesian X,Y table look like a walk in the park (and cheaper).

Alex - see where you're going but wouldn't this be simpler - or have I missed something?

@Terry - It depends on what you mean by "it" and "working".

if you go back to your post Reply #7, then....

If there is currently NO movement in progress then...

if you execute your M1001 from a button, from the MDI, from the CB editor or from a trigger then it executes as you would expect i.e. IMMEDIATELY.

HOWEVER - If there IS currently movement in progress then...

if you execute your M1001 from a button, from the MDI, from the CB editor then again it executes as you would expect i.e. IMMEDIATELY.

HOWEVER IT DOES NOT EXECUTE IMMEDIATELY from a trigger - IT WAITS UNTIL MOVEMENT has stopped and THEN EXECUTES.

This is on 43.22 but I've tested it from 43.66 back to 42.18 and it's the same. Well it is here anyway - if a macro executes from a trigger immediately on your system WHILE movement is in progress then you have (AFAIK) the only system out there where triggers work FULLY and PROPERLY.
