General Mach Discussion / Re: Z axis not working appropriately

Is this the board "HobbyCNC EZ Driver Board Kit"? <rant>Would be really nice if folks could post links to their kit instead of us having to do the searching and the guessing</rant>

Because if it is... in Reply #3 you said your motors were Bi-Polar Series... whilst the drivers on this board appear to be unipolar.

Has your system EVER worked?

Seriously? That's your version of support? Sarcasm? In this internet world, you think treating paying customers like this will keep you in business? Good luck with that business model.

Jerk.
So marklawrence - you now know you've made the same mistake as many a newcomer to the forum. We are NOT Artsoft employees - we are Mach users (customers) who find some sort of perverse pleasure in trying to help others for no reward whatsoever. Sam has made his apology - I wonder if you have the balls to come back and do the same - AND retract the "Jerk" comment?

btw, by "newline" I mean <lf>, as I recall that's ASCII 13.

BTW, as I recall, a LF (line feed) is ASCII 10, a CR (carriage return) is ASCII 13 - NEWLINE on windoze based systems is CRLF (That would be ASCII 13 followed by ASCII 10)

Dont think its axis pin thats lose as it does it on all axis but not in any order.

Not sure what you mean by "does it an all axis" - I was specifically referring to your cutting of a square missing the last side - hence my quote

Intrigued as to whether my memory really is going awol I did a (google) search and found quite a few similar stories.

This one shows the detail well. Interestingly quite a few of the hits I found mention Sherline Mode at some point or other. Anyway - it occurred to me that Sherline Mode is obviously a kludge to cope with slow step/dir transitions and therefore it becomes very important that you get the active state of the step pulse "correct". By using Sherline mode you're actually getting a much longer pulse than Mach would normally output - but this is ONLY effective if you trigger on the TRAILING edge of the step pulse.

So for example if you select active HIGH, the trailing edge is a falling edge. If a falling edge is what triggers your drivers your cool. If however your drivers are triggered by a rising edge then you'd need to select active LOW. Otherwise Sherline Mode will do nothing for you.

This may be nothing to do with your particular problem but it does sound similar and worth a try at least.

Pleased you're making progress. Thanks for letting us know.

BTW...

I have cut a square on three sides the fourth side not cutting however the display is counting down to 0 but no movement.

You have an axis direction pin loose ;)

Phillip - let's get this out of the way and then we can hopefully move on. The thread I'm talking about you abandoning is THIS thread. I closed your NEW one for the reasons I gave.

Anyway - moving on...

In reply #6 Hood pointed out several issues with your XML file. You didn't come back and tell us whether you've followed his advice and if so what if anything changed.

In reply #8 I made my doubts about EC07 being the correct port address. I see from your posts on the other forum you have now changed this to EC00 which is more likely to be correct. It might have been helpful if you'd mentioned that here.

So putting aside for the moment your actual cut path is not what you see on screen. What about your jogging? - is that working now?

Phillip - I realize these things can be frustrating but you're not helping yourself.

Hood and I have been trying to help you and then after your last reply (post #7) you just abandoned this thread and started afresh in another post. This just wastes time and annoys the people who are trying to help you.

You then post on another forum (nothing wrong with that) but you give different information to what you've given us - so now you're frustrating them as well as us.

I'll leave it to you where you want to get help from but if it's here - please STAY with it - follow the thread - and give us UP TO DATE and CONSISTENT information. Otherwise we can't help you.

there is no led for the limits and home.

parallel port on diag page of mach3 shows only 7 or 8 green led, that is all what i have..

Are you sure you ACTUALLY have a problem? Your screenshot contradicts your first quote and if your second quote is about the "Port 1 Pins Current State" LEDs then ignore them - they don't work - never have.

From what you've said so far there doesn't seem to be anything wrong.

I don't remember all the details but wasn't there something about slow optos in some drivers that caused missing steps immediately after a direction change. I seem to remember that happened one way only.
