General Mach Discussion / Re: Rotary + CV + G00 = Clunk
« on: July 05, 2011, 04:52:57 PM »
I'm not certain but I think this problem is down to a bug in Mach. Personally I don't like the fact that Mach blends a move into a following rapid and I can't see any point to it (but you can force this not to happen by my G4 P0). I suggested this to Brian about a year ago but he didn't share my view. With XY this is possibly more of a pain to laser users but as you seem to be experiencing when A is involved it's a more profound problem. It may be worth you taking this over to the yahoo group - good luck with that.

My guess here is that with those settings you're probably effectively turning CV off and that's why the problem *appears* to have gone away.

Back to your OP...

Using CV I get a clunk from the motor on the z-axis (probably losing steps) on a lot of the G00 moves to up safe z which preceedes a G00 move to a new A.

The thing of interest here is that CV is not (or should not) be doing anything anyway in this situation because it doesn't (or shouldn't) blend a rapid into a rapid.

In the three lines you've shown, the only blend should be between the first two lines and even then it's a "straight" blend (Z into Z)

what happens if you put a a zero length dwell (G4 P0) bewteen 680 and 690?

General Mach Discussion / Re: THC controls in Mach

You don't need a brain - Just setup your THC hardware to activate the THC up/down and arc-OK inputs and M3 to trigger your torch via OUTPUT1 and Mach will do the rest.

Stirlings program doesn't work.
This is not fair or true and I'm sorry you've chosen to put it like that. As I explained in our PM correspondence it clearly states in your controller manual that Ajax handles G31/probing differently from the standard Mach3 way and that's why my routines don't work FOR YOU. Here's the relevant section from your manual.

Quote
The Ajax MPU11 supports high speed probing through the use of the G31 command – however the
current implementation differs slightly from the normal Mach3 implementation.  In particular, the point
of contact is written to OEM DROs 2000 through 2007, and OEM DRO 1999 is used to indicate
whether or not a contact has occurred.  Also, when using G31 within a macro to digitize an object, all
output should be explicitly written to a file (rather than relying on the OpenDigFile and CloseDigFile
functions) – the macro should also wait until the G31 is complete before issuing any further commands.

FWIW I was going to see whether I could re-write my routine specially for your ajax controller - somehow now I don't feel so inclined.

So basically, I just change the values in this section?
Yup.
Do I insert any values below this section or is everything below good to go?
Nope - tis "good to go"

I'm off for a lay down in a darkened room for a while...

One question I have is ZStartPoint can't be a constant unless it is only implemented at the start of the job.

Yes - that's why I called it ZStartPoint - it's run once at the start.

Have you run the macro yet? - I think you're thinking it needs to be run once for each slide - it doesn't. You just run the macro once and it does the whole shabang you asked for. It starts at ZStartPoint shows the first slide for the set exposure time, moves up by 0.01 and then down by 0.005 and then shows the next slide and so on till all the slides have been shown etc. and and it's down the pub for lots of beer - job done.

General Mach Discussion / Re: z home switch for toolchanger

Actually I have found something strange about your xml, it does not seem to matter whether I have active High or Low for the Z Home, the LED only lights when activated.

Isn't that how it's allways been and is meant to be? i.e. the LED shows whether the signal is active regardless of which logic you choose.

Hi Scott - thanks for your reply.

I like the cut of your jib sir - that's devious - unfortunately forcing the output to zero if inputs are equal is a problem.

It's kinda become academic in a way because I liked the idea of speeding up the processing frequency - hence Brians - but as it turns out my macropump version seems to work fine so no worries.

All I'm doing is keeping a pendant in synch so that if for example you press cycle start on the pendant and then say feedhold on the standard keyboard, the pendant knows your now in feedhold.

Anyway - thanks again Scott.

Cheers
