General Mach Discussion / Re: Hysterese
« on: June 23, 2009, 11:31:42 AM »
Hood,
This is exactly my problem:  I'm not sure if that's what I'm after.
It is my question in other words.
I don't know if I need a special electronic device to make a nice straight signal,,, or is mach capable of dealing with a "noisy" one.

Rich gives a very accurate description of my problem, but the question still remains: do I need special electronics, or can mach handle it?

Hood and Rich, thanks for your reactions

General Mach Discussion / Hysterese

Dear reader,

I want to put an optical device and some reflecting tape on the spindle axis, to generate a pulse for mach to control the spindle speed.
A friend told me there could be some sort of "bouncing", a very fast on and off switching, when the border of the tape passes the optical device.
Is there a way mach could deal with this situation, or do I have to filter out this noise, before sending it to mach?

I thought it could be controlled with the "inputs signal debouncing/noise rejection" on the general logic configuration screen.
Luckely this friend is very good in electronics, and capable of building some sort of filter to give a nice straight signal to mach,,,,, but is this necessary????

General Mach Discussion / Re: motor tuning: aim for max speed??
« on: June 16, 2009, 06:30:13 PM »
Oke, thanks for your replies.
The picture is getting clear now, especially about the difference in speed and acceleration, while doing a job.
I red about it, but only now i realise the real difference
Just want to say that Mach3 is so much better then my previous cnc lathe program, but because everything can, and must be tuned, one must realise the theory behind it.

Thanks for your reaction Hood,

But is a high speed necessary for certain turning jobs?
Or can all parts be made with a much slower speed? (keep in mind that I'm an absolute beginner)

What would be wise,,,,, go for the maximum x-axis and z-axis speed? Or set things a bit slower to get a more relaxed lathe?
Lathe: -between centers 600 mm (23 Inch)
-3 fase stepper motors 3,7 newton meter on the x- and z axis
          - powerfull computer 100 kHz kernel speed is possible

A motorvelocity of 4400 mm's per min is possible (higher is not possible for the steppermotor, it vibrates and does not turn), but is it clever/wise  to have this speed?

LazyTurn / Re: LazyTurn

Although i dint join the discussions,,, i read it all, and have great respect for all the work and time all of you invest in Lazy turn.
As soon as my lathe is working, i will be using/ testing lazy turn.
Thanks for all the work you have been doing.

greetings jaja

Hello Dave,
you are absolutely right,,,it is a vacuum table, a small one i think
there is a hole on the side, which i did not mention before
if you blow on it the air escapes from all the holes on the surface

thanks very much, you (and others) are a great help

hoi Rich,
there is about four square meters of all kind of things
a friend of mine called:"do you like to buy a lathe?"
"just bought a cnc, which still isn't working, so...."
"but this one belongs to a lady who's man died a year ago, and now she wants to get rid of it all"
so i bought all what was in the room on the second floor
hired a crane and lifted the lathe to the ground on a trailer
it is a real beauty
the mill is not so special
but there are so many cutters, measuring tools, gauges, micrometers, morseconus adapters, boring heads, drills, reamers, soft "claws" for the chuck, collets and more
(on the lathe there is a special collet device, i can send you a picture of it of you like)

so now i have to learn to work with all these things, and make all that i couldn't before

greetings jaja

here is the text for the last three pictures (did something wrong with posting it)
i really don't know what this is
has it got something to do with a lathe or a mill???
is it a mould,,, can you poor a liquid in it to become solid?????????

the white material is like rubber or silicone
i haven't got a clue

It's a blank collet. The face should be soft, thus you can machine the face, like incremental rings which would hold by id or od. You then drill a larger thru so you can draw it up with the bar.
You can make a holding jig out of it or whatever.
RICH

Rich,
thank you very much for your answer
it clear now
none of my friends knew what it was, so you are a great help
thanks
