General Mach Discussion / Re: Basic question about DM542T hookup to PP BOB
« on: December 24, 2020, 12:50:49 PM »

Question: Should I connect the 5V PSU’s common to the GND terminal next to the +V terminal or should it go the ground terminals on the BOB?  It’s just a simple PP BOB with no fanciness.

No, that would break optical isolation from input (PUL/DIR) and output stage of your drive.

Mach3 under Vista / Re: Computer Crashes and will not Reboot

Definitely it is your hardware problem.
Could be power supply, electrolytic capacitors on motherboard and, maybe, poorly seated cooler on CPU (likely needs a change of thermal paste).

Backup your profile, associated macros, screenset (if modified), license.
Reinstall Mach3, last version (062), copy back your backed up files, and you should be good to go.

Check Big-Tex toolsetter screen set how it is done (buttons: Initial Setup and Tool Zero Setup - if I've not mistaken the "writing on the wall" :))

First of all, computer that is running CNC machine SHOULD NOT be connected ti Internet.
It might be connected to LAN, with only a couple folders, non critical ones, shared, so if any gremlin sneaks in will be safely contained :)
Second, when you have a working system, no further updates should be allowed (M$ is known to destroy a good working system).

My computer that is connected to CNC machine is a pure controller and nothing more than that. No unnecessary software, besides Notepad++ and some more utilities. No M$#&% Office or other bloatware. It even runs Win XP :D

HDD image of working partition safely stored on 2 external drives.

When you have stable operating system, OS updates should be turned off :)
M$ is known for breaking even it's own things after updates.
My CNC computer is forbidden to even reach internet, only visible on my LAN, and only one folder shared for transferring data from my cad/cam computer.

So, no updates when system is stable.

Mach3 is not sending G-code to UC300. It is sending PVT data (Position Velocity over Time).

0.1 uF caps are not needed if switches are NC.
