The following thread needs some courage to read but having worth of information including free Gcode generator for embroidery work. Larry has also worked on the quilter and can share information on that if asked.

General Mach Discussion / Re: Max speed Gecko

Actually the one disadvantage is G540 always run with 1/10th microstep...Microstepping is not user selectable...
Not sure why you see this as a disadvantage khalid. Anything much less than 10 and you won't get the advantages that microstepping brings to the party. Anything more than 10 and you're not only into "empty" resolution but also proportionally increasing the chances of microstep "clumping". Marris et al picked 10 for very good reasons.

Ian

Ian,
This is only because my old computer can't gives more tha 25KHz.. and while running the Gecko in 10 step mode i can not exceed IPM of my Router...
Normally i use 1/2 step mode of SLA7062M based driver.. for wood machining its enough... However, recently i have G203V and i was stuck on speed.. Now i am building the new 4x4 router with Rack and Pinion design and will run it on G540 with 45KHz Kernel speed on new computer...

By the way great product from Gecko drives...

Okay, with the kernelspeed set to 45KHz i get 6750mm/min, without loosing steps :)
Damn, if i had just bought a gecko to start with. It is worth all the money...
And that is on my home made router made out of 21mm plywood with real ballscrews and pillowblocks on hardened steel shafts.

Regards Nic
Hi Nic , replace the screw with rack and pinion and you will fly with extreme speed... Actually the one disadvantage is G540 always run with 1/10th microstep...Microstepping is not user selectable...

Hi guys,
I have learnt a lot from this forum and now i want to return a little back to this forum... I want to offer FREE 3D Laser scanning services to the community..

NOW, YOU DON'T NEED TO PURCHASE EXPENSIVE LASER SCANNER AND SPENT A LOT OF MONEY. I AM HERE TO RENDER MY LASER SCANNING SERVICES FREE OF CHARGE TO ALL MACH3 FORUM MEMBERS.

BUT,I need your help:

1- Preparing some Rules and Regulations for such scanning work.
2- Obtaining a server where i can post the 3D Models

I need your help in the first part for now. For example,
1- i can't buy the object to scan it for you, you have to provide the object.
2- You have to bear shipment charges if you want to send me or getting it back.
3- I am not liable to any damage to the part.
4- if the part is available in my locality, i will just ask for Fair price to purchase and scan free for you.
5- If it is household item i will scan free for you (if it is in my house) and send you mesh model.
6- I will send you MESH model in STL or OBJ format only.
7- The part to be scan should not be from Atomic power plant, Weapons etc
8- If the object is Transparent, translucent, shiny and dark.. I have to apply fine powder on it.. The cost of powder and consumables will be beared by the member...
9- I have the right to display the scanned pictures on my blogsites
10- The scanned Model will be my property

I will be grateful if you can add further or rephrase the above so that we have some legal obligations at both sides. As i am giving you laser scanning services free of charge....

Currently, i have some scans done and you can see the quality:

Your help is highly appreciated.

Hi Gerry,
I am thinking of adding 1:1 pully ratio;).. I have read that Backlash compensation is not supported by Smoothstepper .. The next step is up-gradation of the Processsor:)

Hi Guys,

I recently purchased G203 V Gecko drives that having 10Microsteps...
My setup for X and Y axes:

Motor= 1.8 degree= 200Steps
Belt Reduction:        3:1
Ball Screw            : 5TPI
Gecko Microstep:       10

Steps/Inch =200 x 3 x 5x 10 =30000 Steps/Inch

I am running my 1GHz processor computer in 35KHz mode.

Now, after automatic tuning  in Mach3  i got 35456.256steps/inch for X and Y axes and 75256.235 steps/inch for my Z-axes.

My speed at X and Y is now limited to 70IPM and for Z axis its more low.Unfortunately, on Gecko the Microstep values is not adjustable... but the drives works great:)

Somebody tell me can i increase the speed without change in Hardware?

If I convert the Steps/inch into Steps/mm can i able to increase the speed?
