General Mach Discussion / Re: Jobs being Ruined (only just started)

When this happens to me the first thing I always check is, are the mechanical components lubricated.

This is a 64 bit system?  I was under the impression could only be 32 bit.

General Mach Discussion / Re: lost steps on y after a z move.

swap geckos from one axis to another and see if the problem follows.  if so it's the gecko.  also check for loose wires on BOB

Definitely mechanical.  My take on it: if it looks good, it is good.  If you don't like the way it looks, then take steps to fix it.  If you are able, get new parts for your z axis and replace them.  The other thing you could do is adjust down your velocity and acceleration.  If these two settings are too high, they will exacerbate your machine slop.  What are your speed and velocity settings?

General Mach Discussion / Step and Repeat Function
« on: July 24, 2017, 12:45:40 PM »
Does Mach have a step and repeat function?  For instance, I want to carve the word "welcome" at a certain location, but then I want to run 12 at a time, I can set it up to run 12 pcs from Mach?  Or is it better to do this from my Vectric software?  I'd like to do this so I can change the number of parts I am doing each time I pull the file up.

I think you can still get win7 32 bit machines with the port from tiger direct.

I have also stumbled upon using a sharpened 1/4" spiral bit, the diameter is smaller on a sharpened bit.  That was many years ago in the early days.

Did I read this right?  Are you on the internet with an XP machine?  I was under the impression that XP was no longer supported by Microsoft, so any new security issues found would never be rectified.  So none of my XP machines are on the internet.  They are all dedicated and have nothing on them except Mach.  They are all networked with a cable and all programming is done on a central computer and pushed out to each unit.

Why not a 32 bit Windows 7 machine from Tiger Direct?  They are only a few hundred bucks!

Why not stream music from your phone into your earbuds?

At any rate, do whatever it takes to make your machine safe and profitable.  Ruining material because your machine locks up because the computer can't handle all the tasks is bad news.  With all that ruined material you could have bought yourself a second dedicated computer!

And don't forget about picking up the spare monitors and keyboards at yard sales!  I have picked up monitors for $1!

That is awesome!

I've been here, long runs anyway, only to come back a few hours later and realize it lost position due to not keeping gear racks lubricated.  I hate that!
