what are you using for a breakout board? i had a problem that turned out to be not enough power to a cnc4pc board. tha manual had said i could power the board with a spare usb port. using connected that way would give intermittent stalls on a axis during jogging.could jog x axis at up to 800 ipm, y axis to 800 ipm, but sometimes during a combined move would  stall an axis, usually the y. powered the breakout board from the pc power supply and have not had another occurence.

hi, i dont use sheetcam, just lazycam . during the probe touchoff of the plasma torch, the probing speed  for me cannot be any faster than 50 ipm.any faster and mach does not sense the closure of the switch quick enough and will go too low before sensing.when the z reverses, the liftoff will not be up to your requested height.this has been my experience anyway.

General Mach Discussion / Re: Mach 3 + C22 + MPG problem...Help.

hi, i have tried to use sunix pport card . i never had much success with it.  get a card with a netmos chipset. at the store ask them to open the package , on the main square chip on the board will be netmos 9805,9815.

hi all. i have an allan bradley 1336 impact variable frequency drive for the spindle on a hardinge chnc4 retrofit. the vfd has the ability to be driven with a step pulse. i have it connected with mach pin 8 outputting to the drive.index pulse is thru slotted disc on motor pulley.
the drive has  feedback from the existing heindehain 1024 encoder  . all i can say is wow! ask for 1589 rpm, get 1589 rpm. enter 472,
get 472.
after reading about others and there trials of getting the analogue set up, i was looking to that part of the retrofit with trepidation.up and running in 1/2 hour.

anyone else using step pulse with a vfd?

hood, when i had parallel port only ,  had the electronic gearing set to 2:1 as the computer was a little slow. went to the smoothstepper. now have set to 1:1.

i'm using the smoothstepper with viper servo drives.the vipers already have optoisolation..i have drives are connected with no bob.have 500cpr usdigital e6d encoders to  5 tpi ballscrew. separate soundlogic board for inputs and relay outputs.large sajo vertical mill 7" gettys
fanuc motors directly coupled to the axis screws. i have never encountered cogging.it can take  heavy feeds with 6 inch facemill .the vipers are a little difficult to tune. the latest version of firmware protects the drives from blowing. one thing about the vipers is that you can set encoder count following error and output to mach estop.

no need to build anything.
this is a board with 4 relays that are controlled by 5v ttl. i have used many and are reasonably priceed at about 25.00

i am using a thc from rutex.it is a stand alone controller that drives a dc motor.used this since 2000 on a shopbot. last year i built new
plasma table and made an interface that allows mach to raise and lower z axis with a stepper motor . i only did that to reuse the rutex thc.although this works very well, i would consider using the candcnc thc. for a reasonable price you get a thc that is specifically designed to integrate with mach3.

General Mach Discussion / optical switch for lathe index
« on: November 29, 2008, 03:33:29 PM »
i am in the middle of a retrofit of a hardinge chnc4 lathe.moving right along,x and z axis have e6d us digital encoders installed with gecko 320s.ab 1336 impact vfd  with 7.5 hp motor.reading of others and their trials and tribulations with the tool turret, controlled it  by geared head stepper motor with gecko 201  and a 5way solenoid air valve.   can anyone recommend an optical switch for the lathe index pulse? i cant mount a slotted disc so it has to be reflective.  thanks
