General Mach Discussion / Re: "Analog Joystick"?

I used the software that came with the controller.  It asks you to create a profile (I called mine Mach 3) and then it asks you for the .exe file for that program.  Point it to Mach3l.exe.  Then you start creating the commands and assigning those commands to the keys on the Dpad.  Give me a shout if you need more help!

General Mach Discussion / Re: Motor tuning question

Maybe.. Lower Voltage = Higher amps (Ohms LAw).  I'd get a DC Current Meter and test it.

Hey Brian,  I unchecked the watchdogs & set the debounce but same results (i.e. E-stops out of the Blue).  I'm gonna change my Limit switch wirinto something that is shielded (instead of the speaker wire that is there now).  Is it necessary to ground the shield in the cable or is just having a shield in the cable enough?

Thanks,
Sid

OK, based on the most excellent advice I have received thus far everything from a visual standpoint (i.e. check boxes, LEDS, etc) appears to be functioning AOK.  I just can't get a Reset by clciking the Reset button (it acts as if there is no manual overide limit selected so it won't reset eventhough the manual Ovrd limit LED is blinky blinky).

This leads me to ask the embarassing question... on the ports and pins config screen, which pin should I have the Limit Ovrd set to- the same as the E-Stop or the same as my Drive Enable or am I completely spaced out?

Thanks for the help dudes, I appreciate it!

If I start a project in the middle of my axis travel and the center of my project, then I could easily have some negative values. Correct?

The answer is ... "That depends".  If you are using Machine Coordinates the answer is No.  Machine Coordinates assume that your Home position is Zero and since you normally never move beyond the home position in the negative, any movement you made to cut your part would HAVE to be in the positive.

Now, if you are using a fixture offset, then the answer could be yes.  Example.... from the Home position you move to the center of your table by moving both you X & Y axis in the positive.  Then yonce you are in the middle, you reset the X & Y axis to Zero.  You have now created a new starting point to cut that particular part.  So, after having reset your DRO's to Zero, if you now moved X & Y toward the Home position, your DRO's would show negative values.

I hope that makes sense.

Hmmmmm.. this is a conundrum?   ???  Everything looks like it should be working that way but it's not.  I'm gonna sleep on it maybe that will help?

Hmmm, changing the active state now gets the LED to flash red while I am sitting on the limit switch and the message says E-stop Requested (because I hit the limit switch) and the reset button is flashing as well.  I'm thinking that with the Overide Limit button selected and the LED flashing red this SHOULD allow me to move off the limit switch-right?  Or am I wrong and in fact an E-stop is different than hitting a limit switch?

Thanks,
Sid

I didn't have that turned on.  I activated it and I got the LED to flash red when I'm not on the limit switch but when I AM on the limit switch, the LED won't turn on.

Here's what I'm thinking... either I don't have the configuration set correctly (do you need to see the .xml) or I have wired my limit switches incorrectly.  My Limit switches run in a serial loop that pass through my E-stop button (normally closed).  Is this wrong?

Thanks & Regards,
Sid
