I don't recall doing it as a matrix of buttons but may well have.... Many PLC's do allow that kind of input.
The CubLoc chip I used does have ModBus integrated which is how I got it to talk to Mach3

As for the rotary switch you can put a bunch of resistors across the poles of the switch to give you a stepped voltage depending on where the switch is rotated to. This can then be put into the PLC and decoded into a percentage and fed via ModBus.

The feedrate knob is a usefull addition but in all honesty is the only bit worth bothering with (apart from the e-stop!!)

Yikes... That was 9 years ago... Sorry I haven't had the machine for 7 or 8 years and my memory is not what is once was...
As you can see from the pictures all the switches are directly accessible via the pins on the board and can be then wired into something to read them... The same goes for the LEDs on the switches...

If I was going to do it again, I would not bother as after all the work, I never used the panel in real world situations.

Replaced the transformer but it still doesn't work correctly. It pulses the output. So I replaced it with a KBIC. If anyone wants a faulty LENZE 534 controller to repair theirs with then let me know!

The Lenze speed controller on my Boxford Mill has just gone bang...
The offending part can be seen here...

The big black box has burn marks around the base, so I am guessing it is that.
 
I have done a search on google using all the numbers on it but have come up with nothing as I don't even know what component it is?
DC/DC converter?
 
Anybody got any ideas? I'm happy to try and replace it if I can source a suitable replacement. Failing that can anyone recommend a 180v permanent magnet DC controller?

While I think about it... Can you take a photo of your speed controller POT settings please, I wonder if mine are all screwed up.

One of those capacitors on mine blew too, when replaced mine was ok again.

I have modified the mach3 spindle tuning to limit the voltage produced.

There is something amiss now, either with the motor or the controller. The motor will not start on it's own, it needs a little shove to get going. It will keep going when it is going but needs a shove to start.
I have looked at the brushes and they seem ok, as does the commutator.

I need to find some info and read up on the trimpot settings on the controller and work out how to optimise the output without blowing fuses.
