General Mach Discussion / Re: New PlugIn just about done..

Wow, now that's weird, wonder what's causing that, as it happens on all 3 axis.

Dave

Dave,

You just seem to be jinxed.  It works fine for me, at all jog rates.

Guess I'm the only one with problems still so I'm definitely doing something odd apparently.

Maybe one of you kind gentlemen would tell me how your saving your macros in sequence?

I had the 2 macros on my shuttle pro working just fine and for some reason, it will not execute them now after insatalling the new plug-in.

I have them saved as:

Touch plate = M70

Laser Crosshair = M71

Ref home = M72

And when I input the numbers above (without the "M"), it just shows on the status line in Mach that it has been executed but nothing happens with the machine.  ::)

Anybody have a clue?

One other question, have you guys actually used the reverse on the machine? When I reverse any axis, it's very "glitchy" and not smooth when going in the original direction.

Thanks,
Dave

Dave,

Very odd...  Sounds like you're doing it right, and it all works fine for me.  Does it work with the original plug-in?  If not, then something else has happened along the way.  Perhaps save off your XML and create a new one for a single axis, and see if that works?

Ray L.

Scott,

With your latest Plug-In, reverse axis seems to work fine.  Nice job!

General Mach Discussion / Re: Setting Tool Length Offsets....
« on: July 27, 2009, 09:59:14 PM »
RAy I believe the auto function is what you want it only calls the M6start, which would contain the code for the actual toolchanger function. WHen that code ends Mach restarts automatically

SO you do not do a conventional G43H#  tool length comp??

(;-) TP

Terry,

That's how I have it set now, but Mach still sets the new tool offset before M6Start is even called.  It would be nice if, when Auto toolchange is selected, if Mach did *nothing* other than call M6Start, then M6Start could do whatever it wanted/needed to with no interference.

RAY how are you doing TLO with the knee???  In the normal Gcode convention the G43 adjust the Z to compensate for the tool length. Unless your knee IS the Z?

Another point with a knee mill I use the longest tool as the master as this makes ALL tool oofsetts in the neg direction and it will NEVER cycle up to the Z upper lilimts. If there were a drill bit in the mix and the shorter tool was the master then without very carefull planning as to quill travel and where the top of the part is(zero) it would retract the z up into the limits and stop the program.

AND the same is true with a long tool as master, you have to make sure there is enough Z travel so the short tool does not TRIP the lower limits as well(;-)

(;-) TP

Terry,

You have to fudge the DROs in the M6Start macro, to reset the Z DRO by the amount of the tool offset, then apply the offset in the knee instead.  Would be nice if Mach had an option to do nothing on a tool change other than call M6Start, as it's kinda fighting what I want to do in several places....

if you look at the "Drop down" list, you will see that the drop down puts it in numerical order, and the 800 series are in the middle, that will shift all your other OEM button choices by 6 down.

How about the Reverse Jog axis buttons, the thought here is that when you tick the reverse (for some axis), that if it was going ++ with that push, it will now go --

scott

Scott,

I'll give reverse axis a try in the AM.

General Mach Discussion / Re: high speed problem...
« on: July 27, 2009, 12:45:32 AM »
Probably because you're running a relatively high feedrate, with a relatively low acceleration.  When running in constant velocity mode, something's gotta give, and it's sharp corners.  Either increase acceleration, or decrease feedrate.  I believe using exact stop mode will also cure that, but at a cost....

Regards,
Ray L.

Hi HimyKabibble,
Firstly, thanks for reply.
of cos, I wish to increase feedrate. Otherwise I have to spend more than 6 hours to complete a workpiece(due to thousand lines to run)!
So, as you mentioned, to increase acceleration in mach3? or do I need to adjust servo motor's parameter too?

Thanks again.

You need to try to increase the acceleration in Mach under Config->MotorTuning.  See how far you can go before it starts faulting, or losing position, then back off 20-30%.  If that doesn't get you there, then your only choices are:

1) Reduce feedrate or
2) Live with rounded corners or
3) Use exact stop mode, which will introduce other issues that may be equally unacceptable or
4) Get bigger motors that allow you to increase acceleration

Ray L.

OK, those of you with a Shuttle Pro please test this plug in.

I added 10 total custom macros, and I added a "Reverse Axis" option for Axis X-C.

Let me know how the Reverse axis works, since there is another section of code that deals with jogging, but I think it is for something different, could be wrong of course.

Remember to save out your current shuttle pro .dll

Screen Shot of the new Config Screen and the "ShuttleProMod.zip" that contains the new Modded shuttle pro dll

scott

Scott,

I just tried the new macros, and they worked just fine.  Only bad thing is, it clobbered my previous configuration, by re-assigning many of the buttones to the new macros.  Did you change the IDs for existing button functions, rather than adding the new ones onto the end of the list?  Obviously not an issue for anyone installing from scratch, but kind of a PITA for someone upgrading.

General Mach Discussion / Re: CHALLENGE - PRESENTED FOR DISCUSION
« on: July 25, 2009, 11:50:40 AM »
A challenge was recently made in a post. Certainly could provide for some interesting discussion.

QOUTE
It is my personal opinion that you should purchase a license for LazyCam. Here is why:

"I have not found, as of this writing, a basic CAM program for the mill and LATHE which has a good manual, excellent knowledgeable support, and provides the level of CAM capability directly into MACH for the cost of the license."

Hmm........... let the discussion begin.  ;)

RICH

I'd say whoever said that didn't look very hard.  SheetCAM is excellent - good functionality, good price, best support in the business.  There is a lot to be said for Cut2D as well.  I've tried LazyCAM, and hated it.  I've read few positive comments about it - it's quirky, buggy, and has limited functionality.  And, AFAIK, it is basically not supported, so if you do find a bug, too bad - it ain't likely to get fixed.

Ray L.
