General Mach Discussion / Re: Pico Motherboard a Good Option??

Hood:
Since you have a pico with a SS do you use backlash comp?

Steve

SS does not currently do backlash compensation.

Thanks Ray,
But would you believe I stumbled on a way to imbed the parentheses.

  ;SetOEMDRO(827, NewValC) 'C-axis

FWIW

Ray, is there any way to include a memory jogger in a comment that also contains a parentheses?
Example, (SetOEMDRO(827, NewValC) 'C-axis) gives a nested comment error.
TIA
Al Lenz

I believe you can use any character *except* parentheses within the comment, so just change your comment to:

(SetOEMDRO[827, NewValC] 'C-axis)

Simply enclose the comments in parentheses, at the beginning and end of each line.  Mach will ignore them completely.

General Mach Discussion / Re: limit switch issue
« on: August 31, 2009, 04:10:20 PM »
Hi all. I hope I'm posting in the right place. We are running a xylotex board with Mach 3. We set up travel limit switches on the x-axis and tested them. They worked fine. We then extended the wiring loop to include the y and z axis limits, and now we have a problem where every 30 seconds or so the software trips as if a limit was hit. It seems like there is a charge building or something and then finally there is enough potential that the point sees voltage. I'm curious if anyone has had a similar issue? Could it be something in the software set wrong? Could my loop of wire be too long and causing problems?

Make sure the switches are normally closed, and you have a good, strong pull-up on the lines.  That, plus properly shielded cable (shield grounded only on the BOB end) should be quite reliable.

Ray L.

What breakout board are you using?

I just downloaded Mach3 off the website onto a desktop computer with XP and 512 Memory.  Every tap file I run  shows up on the display as a dot in the middle of the display and you can not see the movement as the gcode cycles.  Did I do something wrong?  ray

Ray,

Just zoom in - Shift-Drag up and down with the mouse to zoom.

General Mach Discussion / Re: Screen4 Help
« on: August 30, 2009, 09:22:22 PM »
Try using MachScreen instead.  It's about 1000X more user friendly.  And *if* you do find a bug (as opposed to Screen4 where you WILL fund many bugs), Klaus is very good about fixing them and posting a new version.  Last time I found a minor bug, he posted a new version less than 24 hours later.

General Mach Discussion / Re: Faster movement for 3d routing???
« on: August 29, 2009, 05:47:52 PM »
How fast you can go is mostly determined by the machine itself - motor torque at speed, reduction/screw pitch, etc.  Acceleration is probably the first thing that will limit 3D performance.  How is your machine setup?  Motor size, belt/gear reduction, screw pitch, supply voltage/current, motor controllers, microsteps, etc.  What settings are you using right now for max speed, acceleration, etc.?  What kernel speed are you running?

RAy you may want to get in touch with Peter H he should be able to get you up to speed quickly.

Have you found an LED that may indicate the machine is AT HOME position??

(;-) TP

Terry,

I haven't even started looking at OEM codes yet.  Somebody else is handling that can of worms.  I will document what he finds, once he's verified them all.
