Galil / Re: Need Help with Galil Setup on DMC-1842

Thanks very much. Should I leave the port and pin assignments alone when I enable the output ports?

Galil / Need Help with Galil Setup on DMC-1842
« on: December 23, 2010, 12:30:42 PM »
I need a little with a Galil setup here. Here's my situation:

I am switching a machine over from a proprietary front-end software to Mach3, but using the same Galil card and wiring the machine has always had. The machine works at this moment, with the old software, so it should be pretty straight forward to get this going. Here's what I need to know:

------------------

QUESTION 1: Where do I tell mach3 what my encoder counts per inch are?

---The motor tuning dialog will not let me enter anything.
---There is nowhere in the plugin config where I can set it.
---I can only set the encoder units per rev for the spindle in there, but that setting doesn't apply to me.
---I called Galil's tech support, who told me they deal only with encoder counts, not real world units. They leave that to the front-end software. So where do I tell mach how many counts to use to go an inch, especially as it is different for my Z axis than my X axis?

------------------

QUESTION 2: One of my axes has a slave. Axis 1 and Axis 4 (X and W or X and A) are slaved together. What is the best way to set that up? Do I do so through Galil commands in SmartTerm, in Mach3, or a combination of both?

------------------

Thanks in advance for your help.

Galil / Re: Control Synrad Laser with Galil DMC-1842 via Mach3 ?

I'm going to reply to my own post here. I have found out that it is not possible to use the impact/laser engraving plugin with Galil in Mach3. Art Fenerty informed me that Mach only supports that functionality when using the parallel port. Hope this helps someone else!

Just so I understand, with the plugin you are doing raster engraving where the laser varies the power level based on the bit depth of each pixel in the image as it scans back and forth along the x axis?

What type of signal are you using to tell the laser how much power to put out? 0 to 5 volt analog signal or a PWM signal?

Tweakie,

I am setting up a machine with a synrad laser. I would like to do raster engraving. Are you aware of any manuals or how to guides on using the engraving plugin? Any suggestions on the best path to take?

Thanks,

Josh

Galil / Control Synrad Laser with Galil DMC-1842 via Mach3 ?
« on: December 21, 2010, 08:22:50 AM »
I am working with a machine that has the Galil DMC-1842. I understand that will work with mach. This machine however, has a synrad J48-2S laser on it driven by their UC-2000 laser controller. I want to set it up to do not only vector engraving, but raster engraving as well. Is that do-able? Anything I should be forewarned about?
