Interesting TPS that you think you had the same issue, perhaps another update will fix it.

Thanks for the suggestion Ger, but compatibility mode was one of the first things i tried. I strongly suspect it was an update that broke it, I am part of the "MS beta testers stream" so I really don't have anyone to blame other than myself. To become part of this was just an inexpensive way of upgrading XP to W10 for free, and it worked for a few years.

Thanks Tweakie, it was, I'll admit, the purest optimism to hope for a quick fix. I have been lucky for the last 12 years or so, so now it looks like I'll have to bite the proverbial. Thanks anyway.

General Mach Discussion / Mach3 suddenly fails to load
« on: April 10, 2018, 03:30:16 AM »
Hi, it's been a while since I asked for help, but I need some now. Mach3 has suddenly stopped loading. I am running windows 10 with the latest updates from MS. I haven't changed anything on the PC that I know of, but the PC has installed updates automatically from MS.
I am using an ESS as the motion control device. When I try to load M3 it displays the splash screen for a few seconds and then exits with no error message.

I tried the following solutions to fix the issue:
1/ Renamed the plugins folder and created another empty plugins folder. No change in symptoms

2/ Renamed the M3 folder and then did a clean install of M3 V3.043.062. No change in symptoms

3/ Installed M3 on a different PC and then copied my M3 folder from the PC with the issue to the different PC. At this point M3 worked again, with all of the settings that it had on the PC that had the original issue.

It looks like I will need to reinstall the OS, but I'd really like to avoid that since I have a lot of other software on the PC, which will take a lot of time to reconfigure. All of this other software cohabited happily with M3.

The application logs on the PC show the following errors:

General Mach Discussion / Re: Turning a Helix or Ramp mach3

Thanks for that idea, I hadn't thought of that method. A short thread with a coarse pitch and a large depth might work. I'll do some experiments and let you know.
Cheers

General Mach Discussion / Turning a Helix or Ramp mach3
« on: December 26, 2017, 05:27:07 PM »
Hi everybody, a Very Merry Xmas and a Happy New Year.
I have made a furnace, and want to turn a ramp or helix for its swinging lid. This is in order to make it lift up as it swings to the side. The lid will be in the way of the crucible of molten metal if it opens conventionally with an upwards movement. I realise that I could fairly easily fabricate a ramp, but you see, I've got new servo motors on my lathe, and I'm sure it is capable of machining a ramp onto a bit of round bar.
All I need to get me started are some ideas about how to do it. I haven't been able to find a ramp wizard. :)

General Mach Discussion / Re: Make a pipe bender die

:) Craig, Ya-Nvr-No's pipe bender looks a bit industrial for me, but a great machine nonetheless. Mach3 seems to be happy with the *.nc extension, but as you say gets a bit confused about the other things that you have in there. In the interim, I have built a pulley based bender, which worked well, then broke, I sourced another heavier duty pulley, so I'll make another. A quote from the movie Babe springs to mind "that'll do pig".

Can you suggest a Gcode viewer?
Please

Thanks Craig, all I really need is the grooving tool path ( I think) This area is one that I have meant for years to learn properly, but there always seems to be another way, usually a compromise though. I don't have my tools setup in Mach, so I just manually change tools etc. I perform the various operations separately. Not the fastest way, but.....

I had a look at your code Craig, what software did you use to create it? I am unable to get a graphical representation at all using Mach3. I can download a trial version of what you used, which should show what you have done.
Thanks again for the effort.
