General Mach Discussion / Re: Steps per unit difference
« on: January 03, 2017, 04:59:57 PM »
Go to Settings ( Alt-6),  in lower left side of screen you will find Axis Calibration, click the Set Steps per unit button,
select the axis and click ok, input how far you want the y axis to move, then click ok.
The axis moves and then the screen asks you how far it moved, you input how far the axis actually  moved. It then  asks
you if you want to accept the steps per, click yes.
The steps per value it calculated will be saved to the motor tuning.

Now test that same axis again the same way. You may need to do it a few times and each time Mach's calculated value will get closer to as perfect as you can measure the actual move.

When done ie; you commanded say 8.0000 and it moved 8.0000, then there is no need to continue doing it.
So then Config> save Settings, open the motor tuning and note the step per unit value for the axis.
Go out and back into Mach. The steps per unit should be correct to what you noted.

The input move should be as long as possible. How repeatable or accurate things are totally depends on your machine and how well you measured the actual distance moved.

NOW....one last thing

Go read the MACH 3 manual!  ;)

DICKEYBIRD,

Not sure if your aware of the following thread:
http://www.machsupport.com/forum/index.php/topic,33821.msg234558.html#msg234558

Try contacting Alex He. My replies in that post were with you in mind.

Suggest you post in that thread so we can see how it all goes.
I will be following it. ;)

Look up the lead for the ball screws you purchased and do the math.

SEE:

Using Mach3 Mill Manual
See section 5.5 .1 Calculating the steps per unit.

OR:

In Members doc's you will find the "topic Steps per unit math example".
here is the link:

All I can say that LT is what it is and will not be enhanced or updated.
BUT.....as a FREE program for the lathe used within what it was intended to accomplish.........it serves the needs of many.

Machscreen Screen Designer / Re: Change or rename bitmap directory?
« on: December 30, 2016, 09:17:44 AM »
Klaus,
Not direct but export the info, manipulate in spread sheet, import the info back in from spread sheet.
Similar thought for locations of things since  the locations and sizes are available such that all of it can be used in Cad for easier manipulation of aligning lots of stuff and able to have "skeleton" layout with dro / button numbers etc which provide for easier scripting .

Not sure how much above  would be used by folks, but something for you to consider.

I believe I followed all of the rules for drawing creation.

See Appendix B in the manual and note the following drafting errors:
3.5 and 5.10.

I forgot to list in item 1.0 in reply #6 that the polyline was exploded.

Why not just rename ABC.set to something like ABCoriginal.set?
Name the revised one ABC.set and keep all the bitmaps in the same  one place.

The screen designer provides for defining the path for any created bitmap to be used in the set.

No magic at all.
1. I saved your dxf and converted it to 2007 ACAD which I use.
The image was mirrored about the vertical.
Then added a radius .002" at all the sharp points pointing inward to the stock.
Next I saved the file as a version 12 dxf.

2. One needs to be practical when creating a profile such that a tool can actually cut the profile.
ie; The reason for the 0.002" radius was so that a 0.001" wide tool could cut it, but practically speaking, no such a tool exists!

3. Then I just did a roughing and a finish pathing.

4. To quickly see the pathing you just use the scan line diagnostics. Else if you don't you may need to waite quite long as there is a lot
of tool paths being created depending on settings for the profile cut. If the pathing suites your needs then create a profile paths.

5. Please read the manual, don't hack the program. It's  all in the manual and that is why I wrote the thing.

I like when mommy reads to me at bedtime, I can't since I can only write!  ::)

Try the attached dxf file.
I attached some pathing screen shots from the attached dxf.
