Thanks for the explanation Art.
Hopefully i will  get to testing some later today.
Do you envision the diagnostic remaining in the program or is it just a temp thiing at this time?

General Mach Discussion / Re: thread problem
« on: February 07, 2009, 10:34:54 AM »
Woody,
I'll fool with threading hopefully today and use V3.042.20. I want to test out the "PUNNY" lathe here anyway.
Can use the PP port or the SS, slow the spindle down, and with new steppers installed and backlash down to
.001 on the Z can now try threading at a variety of spindle speeds probably out to 1300 rpm.

I don't have an answer for you, but, just quickly dry running a few times, motor running and steppers disengaged i was able to see the DRO's change at rpm decreases of less than 5% and really go bonkers if you varied the
rpm at certain times of the thread cycle. I wouldn't put much credibility to the above as it wasn't done in a disciplined way. One thing I did notice though, was, that during the "threading" part of the cycle, if the spindle slowed down,...... the x axis didn't change / stayed at it's position.

Later,
RICH

LazyCam (Beta) / Re: What version of LCam??
« on: February 07, 2009, 12:51:03 AM »
If i remember correctly, the lazycam update was to be used such that LazyTurn could be run independently.
As such all the required files are included and you can just put then into a seperate sub-directory under your MACH installed directory. This way if something was buggy you wouldn't affect your Mach installation of LazyCam.
Please correct me if this is posting is incorrect.

Members Docs / COPYCAT MANUAL
« on: February 07, 2009, 12:19:33 AM »
Here is CopyCat V1.1 Manual Rev 0
This revision makes the manual complete in terms of appendixes.
There will be revisions over time, but for now,  I believe it has more than
enough to help you use CopyCat.

Newfangled Solutions Mach3 Wizards / Re: COPYCAT - "KOOL"
« on: February 06, 2009, 11:58:41 PM »
Hi Ron,
I got a manual of sort put together for CopyCat. It would have been further along except got hung up on
creating a circle. If an arc was done then  couldn't do a circle / if a circle was done then only circles could be done and no arcs. The circle box will not light up. Hmm..... maybe you can shed some light.  I have some comments
and will post them for your thoughts.

Attached is the manual for night time reading.

The manual and future updates will be put into the members docs as a new topic.

Tangent Corner / Re: "Sealing" a 5C Collet
« on: February 05, 2009, 12:12:24 PM »
How about trying some GE Silicone clear caulk? Just degrease the 5c and only enough to form a "gasket"  and such that it won't bulge out when pulled. There are some other rubberized caulks used for concrete / glass that are even more pliable.

General Mach Discussion / Re: need help with steppers
« on: February 04, 2009, 07:06:03 PM »
QUATTRO64,
I ,nor anyone else ( unless they are familar with that particular controller ), can help you without info on the driver board. The motors should not get "hot". There must be jumpers or somethinig on the board such that you can change current settings if necessary.

If connected wrong you can blow a drive or worse.

Can you post a picture of the inside of the controller / board? Are there any markings on the board?

If you can at least post that info maybe we help out.

QUATTRO64,
Attached is a motor wiring sketch. Please check double check current wiring. I can't recommend any particular wiring configuration
without knowing more about your drives / controller.

LazyCam (Beta) / Re: Single line fonts
« on: February 03, 2009, 01:34:47 PM »
cuecaps,
There is a "WRITE" wizard in Mach which can generate text, but then i don't know the text types, and have never tried the wizard.

Now there is a simple way to do "single line" text. ( depends on how much you are doing ). Use "COPYCAT" wizard to generate the code. It should be rather fast to use.
