This of course doesn't mean that I cannot do threading operations I hope
.

You will be able to do threading. The more stable the RPM readout the better.

Would you recommend I move to MAch Hoppy
?

Are you meaning Mach 4 Hobby? That's a choice only you must make. Haven't  following it.

A single slot is used for the index. There is no advantage to using a multi slotted disc and it's not supported.
Do not use  / enable any threading  diagnostics plug ins.
So only use the one slot on your disc.

General Mach Discussion / Re: steps per readout

Is there any way to get  a 'steps per readout' on my Mach3 turn screen
.

Not directly. Your steps per are a calculated value for angular moves based on your system.
Actual pulses sent for a move  can be measured if you have the right electronic equipment. My friend used one
which had 6 channels and would show actual pulses sent to some  accuracy of 10 parts per million.
Just saying that there is a calculated value and a measured value and also there can be a difference depending on where you are measuring the pulses.

You could add a DRO on the screen, the basis of which would be a calculated pulse value and that value would show in the DRO. Not sure if it would be worth it since you could always  just use the calculator. Also can use the axis calibration feature to compared a move.

General Mach Discussion / Re: MDI not working
« on: February 26, 2017, 06:41:03 AM »
MDI not working happened to me once in a  screen set.
Tried a number of things and could not find the problem or get it to work.
I deleted and replaced / copied  the MDI from a working screen set using machscreen.
It the worked fine.  It was not a corrupted xml, don't know what exactly what created  the problem, but it worked fine
after doing that.

Set files should  be in the C:\Mach3 folder if that's where you installed Mach.
Use Explorer, go to the Mach3 directory, sort by type and you should see the .set and .lset files.
The default one for lathe is 1024.lset

To change to a different screen set you use
- View>Load Screens
- On the fly out you select which type of screen set you wish to use.
There are Mill screens and they have the extension ".set" and there are
Lathe screens and they have the extensiion ".lset". You just click the arrow and you will see the choices.
- Click Open and and you will see what .set  or .lset are available.

The Turn Wizards reside in the TurnAddons folder.

Id like to change to a screen that has 3 axis dros. I am lathing on mill

I have never done lathe work on the mill. I would suggest a specific profile
if i was doing what you are so that the desired screen and wizards would be available.

Depending on the tool to be used, note that there is a difference in the tool tables of lathe and mill. ALso there are two modes in the lathe
namely radius and diameter.

Note that for the lathe, the right hand rule still applies but you are looking from a different view in ZX, so generated code from the wizard may require reversing of the arc's and there may be other issues.

Have Fun and will say that a mill is not a Lathe...............

I don't know..........
You can buy a nice hand held electronic Chinese tach from Ebay for around $10. The one I bought works great!

General Mach Discussion / Re: emergency stop button
« on: February 20, 2017, 06:16:35 AM »
As kolias replied you will need to  post information on your system?
Post links to information.
BUT
The basic question is ............... What do YOU want the Estop to do?

Emergency stop from a safety point of view could function that it shuts down the complete machine by taking power away from
from the machine and the hardware has redundantcy.

Now I use a hard Estop that is different in intent such that it will immediately stops any pulsing from the drive such that
all axes "instantly" stop movement.

State your intended use and info and surely someone will assist.

G-Code, CAD, and CAM discussions / Re: G28 conflict
« on: February 12, 2017, 05:26:05 PM »
I can't say for the mill but G28 / Mach3 can behave in way that's not what you are expecting for the lathe depending on
current configuration / modes. Still not done testing ..........
Read the description of the command in the manual very carefully.
