General Mach Discussion / Re: Problem cutting circles
« on: April 27, 2009, 08:37:59 AM »
allyd,
Suggest testing out your machine some to get a flavor of just what it can accomplish.
For example, machine the outside of some round stock, 1" dia down  to .8" and also .9"
in a stepped fashion. Also machine a circular pocket of  say .75" into it. The depths only need to be
deep enough to measure accurately. Do the same for a different diameter, say 3". If you have backlash,
use  backlash compensation. You may want to leave some stock for a finish pass.

Spindle runout, how the mill head is set to the table, backlash, x & y screw accuracy, table play, gib adjustment,
how accurately your steps per unit where set,etc....... all come into to play in trying to cut that  "perfect" circle. Play around some and see what tolerance your machine can hold.

Note that a mill is not a lathe but approaches it these days.

Feature Requests / Re: Easy G-Code Scaling
« on: April 26, 2009, 08:43:57 AM »
There are a lot of "boxes" in all the screens / pulldowns. You get used to seeing or using only what
is needed. Been using MACH for a year now and still find myself asking what is that "box" about!
By the time i find out what most of them are,  they will probably change the program!  ;)

iceblue3710,
BTW, i always had a problem when hand engraving something, as the pattern i drew just never reflected what the final piece would look like.

iceblue3710,
You can just scale it up or down using a factor other than 1. Just put the value into the scale box which is located right next to the associated axis DRO. Take a look in the manual page 6-3, 10-19?.

LazyTurn / Re: LazyTurn
« on: April 25, 2009, 09:50:52 AM »
Hi Kerry,
Suggest you print out and read what is posted in the Members Doc.
Then download both the files which i posted in Reply #946.
They represent "partial" update to the LAZYTURN manual section as of 3/28/09.
I say partial, as it's the start of a total re-write reflecting a lot of changes since rev 2
was posted. The manual, inclusive of the Appendix's , basicaly covers all the
comments made in this thread ( a couple hundred pages ).

The manual is very dynamic as it needs to change as Lazyturn develops, but for the most part,
it will bring you up to speed.

If you want to try out LazyTurn, try out the DXF posted in reply #946 as it's the one which i am using
in the manual.  Of course you can go to Appendix "D" and view same 50 files posted in this thread and
fool with those, or make your owne profile.

Have fun,
RICH

General Mach Discussion / Re: Noob is mystified

Michael,
I have installed MACH on numerous PC's, as an example, two at work for playing around / simulation, and never experienced any problems or interference with other programs. So not sure of your reluctance to installing it on your "main" pc but that's your choice. There is no problem removing it should you so desire. Just thought i would mention this.

ART,
Tried out the the MACH3GENERATION4 driver you posted back in reply #231. I used the SS & G76  for trying to cut multiple start threads. Single and double start were fine but no go here on the three start thread as the  timimg was off i believe. Lead start point on end of piece varied for the third thread start.
The threading  was short  (3/4" inch), but  overall all, by the time it's cutting the third start it would have been the equivilant of doing a single thread  of 2 1/4" long.

Would this be an applicable test for trying out the index timing?

Making an adapter so i can easily mount and try different slotted disc's for testing.
