LazyCam (Beta) / Re: Lazy Cam tool offsets. Do I need Lazy Cam Pro?
« on: June 10, 2009, 06:30:02 AM »
If you look at the downloads you will see the following for LazyCam"

"However, there is an optional PRO level upgrade that turns on advanced features such as object offsetting, pocketing, primary foam functions, importation of DXF profiles for conversion to Lathe turning code, etc.  It is optional, but gives one the ability to do more advanced importation of objects."

General Mach Discussion / Re: First Post - Help with setup issue?

"It would be useful if had an explanation for what Mach is actually doing"

Better than an expanation, is to run things in slow and fast moves along with changes to the
"50-50-50 rule for starting backlash settings. 50% of max axis velocity - 50% for backlash speed % - 0.050 for Shuttle Accel setting". That will give you the explaination on how it behaves depending on what is influencing it. I fooled with backlash for hours. Nothing i can explain will give that experience. I don't know the "inner" workings of Mach but rather relate to how it behaves. And it does what it does and anything can be improved. You may want to post a question on the thread on Mach ver 4 and see if they are planning on doing anything differently with backlash and provide specific suggestions there.

BTW - Some controlling programs provide option of implementing the backlash over a quadrant of the arc travel or  the backlash at the typical 0-90-180-270 circle point.

C+C,
I have waited for ss backlash compensation for over a year. I am sure it will get done eventualy.
Maybe this year sometime, but that is only a guess. Who knows. If you can use the PP then you have an option.

General Mach Discussion / Re: Is this backlash or missed steps????
« on: June 08, 2009, 09:17:52 AM »
What happens if you tell the axis to move 10", 20", 40" based on your steps per unit compared to a standard for
those dimensions? So if a small error in steps per unit at 1" existed then it would be maginified 10x at 10".
If the steps per unit is correct then it would appear to be backlash. Based on your trials that would be
0.011 / 10= 0.0011" provided you took the backlash out before you did the G1 x20 move.

Simpson36,
"I disagree that the machine 'must' stop to take up the slack. "

Hmmm........
There is a mechanical side to all this.
If an axis didn't decelerate or stop before changing direction ...what would happen?
Ever put your car in reverse at 5 mph? How about 50 mph?
Equal and opposite reactions / forces on the drive train......  not good!
Can't change the laws of physics.

DaveA,
I, just like you, was not satisfied with the replies given in here. There will be a tutorial on arc programing for the lathe that will be posted in the Members Doc section.

Cartierusm,
In a few days there will be a tutorial on Arc Programing for the Lathe posted in the Member's Doc's section which will answer your question's.

Melee,
Thanks for posting additional clarifications. What is important is understanding what the controller,
in this case Mach, will do with posted code. Like any language you have dialect which can create interpretation
problems. There will be times, were multiple arc's are present and no "single click"of a setting will do the fix. When that happens, there may be no choice except to modify the code. Hopefully this thread will provide for addressing the issue. I will make another posting about the R value which was written by Smid.
