Hi All,
The "Feature Request" section would be an appropriate place for any suggestion. Title it well and maybe also provide some background as to the why. Feel free to post anything you think would be an improvement to Mach.
Then those responsible can consider your suggestion. This way there should be no misunderstanding as to the content of the posting.

I think it fair to say, that in reading something, the mind set may be to look for a problem in Mach, wonder if someone needs assistence with Mach, or maybe requires some understanding on Mach, or seeks the experience of another. How the posting is presented makes a difference as to the reponse.

Just a reflection,
RICH

Here's my take on this:
Gcode is defined by the NIST RS274 Standard ( 1960's ) and I think there is a European Std also.
Do the standard's define things down to the number of "decimal points" ? I don't know. There are other standards out there also.

The problem can be be summarised by asking the question:

What are the requirements of the controlling program?

If all controllers where truly standardised then there would be no need for a manual for any of them.
So a program ends up having a post processor to allow adjustment such that the receiver program,
namely the controller ( MACH, HAAS, FANUC, etc)  can interpret a g-code appropriately. The controller may or may not allow for flexible a configuration. I think many companies out there want it that way. There are proprietary canned cycles out there. You often will see a note like "READ THE MACHING CENTERS MANUAL FOR SPECIFICS".

At the user level we make a dumb assumption that if it works in one it should faultlessly work in another without
the understanding or taking the time to answer the question above. Even if we knew the answer exactly the user
probably couldn't adjust for it. You get responses like. the program has a bug, or it doesn't do something correctly, or maybe it don't fit a preconceived notion of how the user thinks it should work, and "your left holding the bag".The vendor may simply answer you that "ours" is correct and it's your problem.
Thus,  compatibility problems have existed for over 40 years and will continue for probably another 40 years.

Ask a vendor to change his $20,000 program for you or get rid of some quirk's on his end! Will never happen.

I don't fault Mach or any other controller program, or pass a judgement on them, but rather just say "that's life".
In the context and understanding of my long winded reply,  not a problem relative to the requirement of MACH.

Sorry, just a user like yourself and don't know why.
I usualy do a final  finish / profile coding ( which the posted code dosn't seem to have ) and then maybe it "may" show correctly.

Until whenever, as long as it cuts the way you want it to.  ???

Jeff,
What program are you using to generate the code?
Can you post the DXF?
I can't find a setting that will get the stock to show properly and have seen similar before.
I have just ignored the stock at times by turning off the setting in config>toolpaths, not saying that is appropriate.

General Mach Discussion / Re: Is this backlash or missed steps????

simpson36,
I never tried putting a some long value into the steps per unit, but you may want to try and then use the xmll reader to see what value is stored in the xml and if it takes it.
What does the manual say?

You can get past xmls, which worked before, as they are stored in the C:\Mach\xmlbackups. Look at the readme file in that sub directory to see what you need to.

You have an Xbox 360, did you remove the dll for the Joystick and ShuttlePro out of the plugin's directory since that can create problems if memory serves me.

Since you tested and confirmed you have a signal coming out the PP, and it was a Dell with on board graphics, the signal quality came into question, but at reduced velocity ( drop it down from
200 ipm to say 50 with acceleration ) the effect of a poor qulity signal may be diminished.
If you have or can borrow an osciliscope to look at the signal, fine, but  i wouldn't go out and buy one just for test.

This stuff happened, post going up on the internet. You should have the PC dedicated for CNC.
Could now have something now interfering with Mach.

Just some thoughts which can cause problems and don't require modifications to the hardware.
Simply put, if it worked before, it should work now, so take a moment and go back thru the
whole process and reaffirm Mach configuration and all connections.

Can't help you  with the configuration because you give no specifics on  the machine or dirver your using.

Here's why i ask. I have a GX520. I also use a SS with it with no problems. Suggest, if  you can, see what the quality of the PP signal is like using an oscilloscope , as it may have ringing on the signal and there nothing your going to do about it. Stepper velocity here with PP  is max 10 IPM and with SS have tested it to 120 ipm or so.
Not sure if it's the PC, as you said, worked great before.

SmoothStepper USB / Re: smoothstepper hangs mach3
« on: June 10, 2009, 10:31:49 PM »
rally.sport,
Putting the SS in a solid metal box would be shield and that shield would be considered 100%. If it were shielded
in say a fine metal mesh screen  ( there are rough equations or quides on how open the mesh should be depending on what you want to do ) then that also may be appropriate ( but not as good ). You could also just put Al tape, overlap the seams, ( like the tape used to seal duct seams ) around the whole thing and that would shield it.
Now if the noise is being carried to it via wiring inside the the shield then your shield won't be worth much in that sense.

Define the source of noise  / rf, contain or minimise it, shield as best you can, move the SS to it's owne or appropriate location ( like in the computer case ), Use the same ground for the 5v as the gound of the supplied 5v.
Sometimes there is logic to it all ,sometimes i just call it black magic ( because it worked and nobody can realy say why!

Just some thought's, no one stop solution for you,

What Dell Optiplex tower are you using?
What velocity for the steppers are you are trying to run at?
Do you remember what the steppers sounded like when they ran?
( Did you hear anything like a clunk, clunk, clunk....sort of like hitting them with a little rubber mallet?)
Are you running off the motherboard PP or another PP?
Does that computer have on-board graphics?
