General Mach Discussion / Re: Parallel port problem

HMM......
Recently with a new  PC / Mach version .028. I could not for the life of me get the axes to move.
For some goofy reason, Mach just would not take the PP address. IE; I would get a DRO change when jogging but no axis movement. Yes windows said all was fine, yep pin outs were correct, all that stuff..........I just kept changing between the two address and finaly ......after 2 hours...... it took.
Never had that problem before. I even remember the address  DC00 and the other was D880, it finaly took the
D880.

Now one critical difference is, i could not see the status change at the PP.

Which you are saying is happening.

If that's the case, then is the signal appropriate for all your downstream "stuff"?

Oh, BTW, we had a similar problem were the pin assignment for the drivers were not correct in the instructions.
Only 256 combinations, a number of hours later , had 2 out the 4 axis working. So just a thought......

Can you post a pic of your machines Z axis.
 I don't think it's a sofware problem.

DO you zero out the Z axis before running the program?

Take a look at section 8.3.4 and also Tutorial #6 section 1.0 Plunge Cearance in the manual to make sure
your not doing somehing wrong in LC.

ART,
TEST:  REPLY #515 / NO SPINDLE SPEED AVERAGING / NO ADVANCED THREADING / VER.028
115rpm / 40 passes/.1P
The real time rpm increased some to 115.75 and fluctuated by about .5 rpm.
The application rpm increased to 116.6 to about 117.1, DRO read 117.

During the thread:
Real Time application 115.6 ,while application was 116.6 to 117 rpm ( roughly)
I noticed the elongation of the scribing about pass #10 ( didn't have the microscope attached to the lathe ).
So picture #2 shows the cutting about 1.6" from the start of the thread. Notice how it gradualy tapers inward as
each pass was made. That just says the Z axis and timing seem rather consistant, and if it varied a lot
( up and down ) then backlash or or something else is going on.

The lead increased.

ART,
Only one test @ 115 rpm / .1p / 40 passes.
Single scribed line, pitch improved. The lead decrease now  0.005" / inch instead of .008".
I didn't make note of the rpm range changes , DRO stayed at 115.
Want more tests or you going to tweak on your end?

ART,
Only one test done using advanced threading. Picture attached.
Something went wrong after the 6 th pass. The first 6 were a single scribe but the lead decreased .006" in an inch.
Like you said, expect the unexpected and keep the hand on the ESTOP!
RICH

MODIFIED: OOPS, the .0007" dim should be .007" in the picture.

Steve,
Yes, just and as Hood said, but, if the first address dosen't work try the second one. On my new PC
that's what i had to do as the first address just wouldn't take in Mach.
