Brian,
After using the NFS wizard you click post code and exit, you will then see the gcode in Mach.

here is a link to the NFS site. You will find the manual under "DOWNLOADS" .

There is a manual for the NFS wizards and you may want to take a look at it. Most of the wizards have  button which you click to "Post Code" to Mach.

One good desktop computer, monitor, and controller on a portable cart serves all my machines in a consistant manner.

General Mach Discussion / Re: lathe index led intermittant .
« on: December 02, 2009, 04:06:09 PM »
The index randonly  blinks in diagnostics here. PP & single index / manualy setting rpm. There is a fix which
Art posted recently in "Problems Threading on the Lathe" for users with VFD's, but, you seem not to have a problem with rpm readout.
The inportant blink of the the index is that you  are triggering for the start of thread cutting.
See section 3.4 of "Threading On The Lathe"  ( you will find it in Members Docs ) for index and z axis tests you can do.

General Mach Discussion / Re: how to make my rapid move faster.
« on: November 30, 2009, 09:02:21 PM »
Josh,
You can always go and change the velocity settings to a higher value until the axis will start to skip steps and work on the fringe of it /maybe not being reliable when / cuttting something. Kind of a loaded question you ask without knowing specifics of your machine.
Try posting some more info.....like:
- Type of motors and info on them
- drives you are using
- type of screws and info on them, including any reductions , etc
- machine size
- Power supply info, voltage / amperage available
- is this a hobbiest situation or industrial

Axis velocity capability is related to all of the above. So as a system there are compromises and it all depends on what you are trying or want to do. So if you are looking for options then post additional info
and i am sure you will get recomendations that will be of more value to you.

BTW, you could always just increase the feedrate if it's code kind of thing.

John,
I would check your axis for backlash. When it's done with the finish pass it should pull back that 1mm , clear the stock, and then move back in Z completely clear of the stock. Additionaly you may wnat to make sure your work is rigid, since there could be some spring.  Post the code , but, i don't think it is the code, but rather your lathe.

General Mach Discussion / Re: Converting this to gcode
« on: November 30, 2009, 03:24:43 PM »
Why not convert something simple like that directly to a Gcode file.
Try taking a look at CopyCat which allows you to trace the pattern using a webcam.
There is a manual for CopyCat in the Members Docs. It's an option.  ;)

FAQs / Re: In need of a low speed spindle motor
« on: November 29, 2009, 01:54:45 PM »
Thanks Sam,
Let me add this. I think they call them vari-stats. They are used for hot plates. Don't use them for slowing down an AC motor (  drops voltage and amperage goes up and can fry a motor). Never use one instead  of a  transformer to lower the ac for  converting to DC ( you can get electricuted because of the grounding).
