RT_M.....  Glad that worked  ;)
Hey, i don't like to read since i can only write,  ??? Don't  hack your way through LC.  :)

You shouldn't have to move the origin. See attached.

Quote
is there some way to move the XYZ 0 in mach 3?
Yes, via offsets, but try it the simple way.......as the above  is a different story.

If you draw your piece such that corner is x and y =0 in CAD, then when you import the DXF into into LazyCam you can keep the origin as drawn see  section 6.2.3 in the LazyCam manual. You can change the origin in LazyCam, but easier to just do it in the drawing. The generated code needs a start point, so by default if you draw the profile based on the edge ( x& Y =0 or in the positive x & y quadrant )  you will see the move from
0,0 to where the cutting will start. It will be a rapid, so turn your rapids on in LC and have a look.

Satisfy your question?

Your missing a few points i made.
If you get 5V from a supply, it goes to the circuit, and then there is a ground wire to complete the circuit and  it should go back to the supply ground since the voltage difference to ground will be relative to the supply source and not some other ground.

On the shield part: Imagine it's raining out and the shield is keeping the rain from getting on the wires inside of it. So the rain on the
shield takes the water to some spot where it is collected and will not touch the internal wires. That spot can be an imaginary lake and all the shields from different cables go to that lake and then a big pipe takes all the water away to get rid of it. So the shield is protecting the
internal wires from picking up any noise ( signals which make no sense to your hearing ) and providing an easy path to ground to get rid of it. So shield ground has a very different use then a circuit ground.

I deal in pounds per hour and gpm so when it comes to circuits i could be all wet.  ;)

Why not just learn a few commands in CADSTD and draw and try it with that program. ( i never tried it or used it ) Corel Draw seems to cause problems.
All you need to know is how to draw a straight line, arc, cirlce. Then maybe you won't have problems with the DXF.

You need to tell mach the address of the parellel port in config>port& pins, so that is what they are probably talking about i am thinking.
Post info on your controller. Till then maybe someone who has same controller will post.

There are two grounds, one for the circuit and one for the shield. The circuit ground should go back to the same ground used for the source
, in this case the board. The shield should be grounded to say the controller frame / box.

General Mach Discussion / Re: RPM and counting ?
« on: April 02, 2010, 08:55:30 AM »
Like the other posts you will need an input to Mach in your config to say what pin / input and port is used for the signal.
I am curious as to what your sensor is reading off of. Are you reading off the gear teeth? ( Can't tell from the pic )
If so that would be timing and won;t work as you need a single index from a slot or magnet ( Hall sensor ).
Have a look at the Threading On the lathe Manual section 7 as that has info on configuration.
Post info on your sensor.

Good going on your project. Glad to see someone having fun and getting a lot of self satisfaction.
Remember that you need to show pic'c of your first piece you do.

Glad the info shed some light on it. Sometimes a picture is worth a thousand words.
