CVI MachStdMill (MSM) / Re: Number of MPG axes?
« on: July 19, 2010, 06:48:09 AM »
Dave,
At this point in time, and relating to any future comments I make, just consider them comments.
Some may need clarification.
I think you should just let the screen set be, as is, and let the users identify whatever they can over some period of time.

You may want to start a new thread and call it Manual Comments.

CVI MachStdMill (MSM) / Number of MPG axes?
« on: July 18, 2010, 09:27:29 PM »

MSM does not impose any restriction except that I could only fit one MPG in the jogging panel on the screens. This was a trade off between generality and complexity - we figured one MPG covered most MPG users.

So if you have two, then you need to select the specific axis, which is reduced functionality, thus, both are not operatable at the same time....?

On a lathe it is realy nice to have two mounted on the carriage such that you duplicate a natural manual operation. I know this is for
the mill but just thought i would throw it out. When used on the mill, using say CopyCat to scan / get Gcode for a piece then two are used to advantage since you don't need to distract thinking while working.

Dave,
Thanks for your replies as i have been following them. I know a lot of effort was required to get it where it is.
Good job on the manual  as i know what it takes to do one.

No problem with the installation but haven't tried it out yet. Just need to get familar and confortable with the screens.
Then maybe I'll try it out. Maybe even probing with bendable probe..... ;)

? Does this version restrict the number of MPG's that can be used?

Comment: Page 37 / 38 you may just want to add a one line which says, if  user has no limit switches then just
position the tool to desired location and ref all.

BTW, I guess turning will get a turn for some attention......soon?  >:D

Chris,

You never fail to impress me with the work you do......
Keep it up and always enjoy the pics,  :)

Hmm......practicaly speaking, for most hobby machines, there are enough folks in here with experience on all the variations on the the theme,
such that expectations can roughly be know without a lot of techie stuff......just depends on hearing the song....... ;)

I think they still should go much faster then I can get them to go

YES, but your voltage limited, the  time required to get the current level up  ( think of an RC circuit, becomes inductive rather than resistive ) is dependant on the voltage which affects possible motor speed. They don't give your curves for different voltage levels other than say 24 volts. As the pulsing is increased, your pulsing / waveform  being sent to the motor reaches a point where it is very unsatisfactory and thus you reach a max motor rpm for a system. SYSTEM means your power supply, drive, and mechanical / machine, thus,  all have an effect on the preformace.

You may want to have a look on the Gecko site as they have a lot of  theory / info explained better than i could ever present .

Will,
All things considered then you have found the max velocity for "YOUR SYSTEM".
I don't know what the motor curve would look like at a reduced voltage, but as you have found out it is a lot less.
That said, play with velocity and accel and set for what will give you consistant preformance with no issues.

worn out my comosite screw nuts after a mear 5 projects

- if your nuts a worn then you will have backlash in the z and thus it will affect the z position
- then it's time to replace the nuts or use backlash compensation

Easy3Mill.XML
- attach the original xml file
- i would compare the difference between the settings in the easymill.xml to what didn't work for you otherwise

Quote
worked ok, untill I reboot the program /  Re-installed mach3
- Did you run the driver test? delete the Mach3 driver which can be found in the device manager, then just run the drive
test as that will reinstall it  since you may be using a different driver which exists on your PC

Quote
Mach 3 rewrites the Mach3Mill.XML each time
- yes, every time you change settings  it will rewrite

voltage outputs to the motors from 2-4VDC
- if you look at Vexta's info on you motor they give info on preformance (1.4 A / 5V Series and 2A / 3.6  Unipolar ) so speed and torque
depends  on  how they are wired, but note that for unipolar they give a curve for 24V. So at a lower voltage you will not get that  speed

Do as Jerry suggested  to start and keep lowering.

I have used other DXF file versions and they worked fine, but seems like a ver 12 is best and that is covered  in the manual .
