General Mach Discussion / Re: Looking for some advice on a project

Mike,
Try the file  I attached on some scrap and see how it  turns out. I think the depth of cut is 0.005". Set the scale at .6 in mach and that will get you close to what is shown in the attached pic. The box is 1.5 x 1.5 ".
It's just a test piece which will give you an idea of what to expect from the picture. It has the flag, some stars, and a few details which will give you an idea of how well your  machine will engrave. At that size you don't want much detail but still need to convey the info to the viewer. Thus detail in the right spots, some shading cuts, and minimize the amount of gcode / movements.
Can you post a picture of the reciever side that it will go on?

To post a pic just, click preview, and then when the window opens, click Additional Options  and you will see that you can attach a file.

Try out your machine and see what results you get from attached file.
May want to scale it down some ....

Hmm,
Just a FWIW, I helped a young fellow out who bought a Chinese dirver similar to that and the motor pin outs were wrong in the document.
Was a PITA, but we figured it out. Lots of combinations to try ......
I will assume that is not your case.

Can you post the photo?
Also can you post a picture of the receiver?

Would be happy to contribute as a small token of appreciation.

There are some things to consider and you only get to do it once and right the first time around ...............

You can also send me an email.

drivers that came with the card would NOT work with Mach, but the drivers from the MOS site (for the specific chip on the card) work perfectly.

Thanks Simpson, as i had the same problems with a few cards a long time ago. The drivers first tried were on the installation disc and followed the instructions. Actualy someone  sent me a driver that worked. Just should not need to do this kind of stuff.
My answer to this kind of stuff goes like this:
Buy the card but make an agreement ( before purchasing it "localy ") that full refund will be given or the seller will make it work,
If they won't do that ...........walk away and go somewhere else.

Here are some notes from LT page 139. Can someone using W7 fix the text so it provides clear answer to the posting problem.
( make note of the version you are using as i think that the home version won't allow you to run in XP mode......could be wrong as  i don't use it )

Thanks,

Mach3 under Vista / Re: Vista - Motors wont move - even during initial setup

the reset boutton is flashing

If you are not using a hard ( an actual estop switch wired to kill the system ) estop, then go into port and pins and for the estop assign a port, pin,
and check "emulated". Just remember that the estop is now SOFT ie; just a software switch.  Once you do that you can click the reset button and you should be able to move the axis.

Chip has a good grasp of the program and if he chimes in I am sure he will tell you the good, the bad and the ugly.

I tried version 17 a long time ago and didn't care for it..........just couldn't get the examples to work.....surely it has improved.

pickuptrck,
Did you set the amp setting on the board for the motors? Your motors should not get "hot". If you unplugged the motor leads with the drive active you may have blown the drive. To test the drive consult with Zylotex as they should be able to tell you exactly what to do to test the drive.

You can simply run Mach without the controller / motors hooked up to see if Mach is configured and working properly.

I would also recommend you update to a more current version of Mach3.

DAVE,
Is the reset button flashing on the screen?

A router can create a lot of noise on the leads to the motors and cause problems so make sure they are shielded and grounded properly.

I would also recomend that you run your machine off a dedicated circuit which will not be influenced by other power users. The circuit should be suitable for total of all the users. In the case or a motor 1.5 to 2 times normal current draw ( i don't remember what code states ).

Try lowering your acceleration and velocity first and see if it makes a difference. Say 30% below max velocity and test.
