FAQs / Re: Mach 3 Motor Calibration
« on: September 11, 2010, 08:45:34 AM »
Eduarado,
Mach will increase or decrease the steps based on actual movement. If your way off in your steps per inch to begin with then you may need to use the calibration more than once to get it right on. I assume you resolved the other problems you had regarding your machine.

ostie01,
You made a helpfull repsonse to a question....and suggested .....that inivator use lower case.
Nobody is going to be told to "kiss off" under my watch. You deserve more than that for a reply.
Most would take it as an insult or personal attack which is not tolerated on this site at all.

I'm an absolute newbie...........Am I biting off more than I can chew?

I second what Tweakie posted. Enjoy the learning curve. new machine, new controlling program, new software.......it not just plug and play and
the killer is in the detail of it all.

G-Code, CAD, and CAM discussions / Re: G Code Problem or Settings Problem??
« on: September 10, 2010, 06:17:34 AM »
TNROUTER,
Seems it's in the generated code from V Carve and I have no knowledge of V Carve. I would guess that if a straight line was in there like the pic it would clean up the bellies. Step through the code and note how the Z is changing along with the moves along the arc. It could also be a difference in your machine vrs theirs.

FWIW,

LazyCam (Beta) / Re: Moving Tabs in L.C.
« on: September 09, 2010, 08:02:06 PM »
HANK,
Have a look in the Members Docs as i just posted a tutorial on tabbing. You can modify the created tabbing by deleting elements of the chain.
Like the ones that are placed on the corners. You can play with the tabbing via the inputs and see the affect...may not be what you expect.
Can probably just draw them more quickly in CAD if you can't get exactly what you want from the automated tabbing.

Moving chains and elements is not fun at all. LC is an importer of dxf files. You can do minor fixes with chains and elements, but , even that can get complex. LC is not a drawing program.

Since LC starts the tabbing at the origin ( where the first Z plunge occurs) and you can change that location, it would seem that the tabbing would then be different. Still will get corners, but you can delete those.

That's all i know......

LazyCam (Beta) / LAZYCAM TABBING TUTORIAL
« on: September 09, 2010, 07:47:56 PM »
Here is a basic tutoriai for creating tabs in LazyCam.
Not a lot of time was spent on it, is basic,  but it's better than what currently exists.

two lines ending close to each other Mach 3 will connect them

Yes there is a tolerance setting that you can set. Tolerance is defined on Page 16 of the Manual which you will find in the Members Docs.
I may add, you do a drawing in CAD ...but....your drawing should reflect how you want to machine the part. All explained in the manual.

Hood answered the other question. Occasionaly you may get an unwanted circle even though Mach's settings are correct, and just delete it.
You should always check  / step thru the gcode before deleting it.

1234 as the password
Off thread .....but, here is a little TRUE humor.....

I did a spec at work and somebody wanted to use it for his job, a lot of work was done on it by me. When asked for it, I sent it, but he replied back that it was password protected. He called and asked for the password, and i promptly replied, F?$# You, he asked again and i replied the same. So unknown to me he went to his boss and explained what he was told.
The boss called and asked for the password, I replied the same words. He said i could be fired for what was said. I replied to him that i gave him the password what more does he want from me? He hung up!
Four hours later that boss called me and suggested I find new pass words to use. I told him that I understood, but, that he must admit that he wouldn't forget it and that folks at work just don't listen anymore.

He agreed and said it was one for his memoirs. We still laugh about it till this day!

Cheers,
Just do some testing with your machine and see how well it does.
Even an old machine can be tweaked to achieve some fine results for one  particular machine operation.
We live in a computerized machining world and forget that some practical experience goes a long way to achieving the sought after perfection.
