General Mach Discussion / Re: how accurate is your diy cnc machine

Hmm.....loaded question........
All depends on the components of the machine and how you use it.

General Mach Discussion / Re: Spindle DRO not working in Mach3 Turn
« on: October 17, 2010, 06:55:55 PM »

I've tried with turn diags enabled

The turn diagnostics should not be used in version .032 and above, so un-enable the plug-in.

Like Hood replied, you need to turn the spindle on as that tells  Mach to imeadiately start looking for the true rpm from an index pulse.
Make sure you do not have timing enabled. It dosen't work after .032 and is not better than a single index. The thread changes were implemented in 3.042.032 and .033 took care of a negative dro rpm  problem for computers with a fast bus speed.

I use 10 for  the index debounce and 600 for the interval. You may need to set yours to something different.

VB and the development of wizards / Re: wizard for grinding??
« on: October 16, 2010, 06:25:10 PM »
Tapio,
I don't recall any posting in here about using  Mach for a grinding machine and definitely no wizard. Could be wrong and you may want to try a search.
I sharpen my endmills but do it manually with a Darex end mill sharpener.

G-Code, CAD, and CAM discussions / Re: Newbie needs easy help
« on: October 15, 2010, 06:02:56 PM »
Have you thought about giving one of the wizards a try?
You willl learn a lot and can try a number of different ways of doing the machining task.
Run the code in Mach and see what each line of code does.

Mach3 under Vista / Re: Has ANYONE gotten a MaxNC15 CL to work?
« on: October 15, 2010, 05:43:48 PM »
Did you get an xml file from them for using Mach and for what version of Mach?
Can you post the xml and also info about the drive?

What exactly did you purchase?

I would think that the things should work for what they sell....at those prices .....very well.

Are you using Mach3 as the controller?
I would think the Gcode generated from LC would be appropriate for most any controlling program and thus no need for a postprocesor.

General Mach Discussion / Re: Axis length movement profiling / mapping ?
« on: October 12, 2010, 06:45:54 AM »
Harry,
Your positioning will only be as accurate as the compnents that make up the axis. Suggest you have a look at some commercial units to see what they
publish on accuracy. Also see the posting on this site for what others have made. There are a lot of folks that use router tables, i don't do wood working anymore ( never did any with cnc).  A big table like yours would probably use servos since your after speed and stepper rpm max's out around 1000 rpm or so.Also look at the pro's and cons of the different components. A high precision ball screw 8 foot long will cost a small fortune but a rolled one say .003 to .006" per foot would give you say 1/16" but i think manny users would go with a rack and pinion or belts becuase of the distance.

There is a big difference between metal and wood machining in terms of accuracy as Hood questions.

As far a profiling an axis, well i have done a few using  equipment which most folks don't have . It's time consuming. All depends on how accurate
you want to measure.

Harry,
There is screw mapping under the Function Cfgs tab. Never used or tried it out so would be interesting to see if anybody else has played with it.
If you have encoders then seems rather easy. If you need to manualy put in the numbers then the task gets somewhat more difficult. Depends on how accurate you want to be in profilling the axis.

LazyCam (Beta) / Re: offset problems
« on: October 11, 2010, 06:40:23 PM »
See attached dxf. I created a layer just of the outside profile. You will find two offsets created by LC which you can unenable.
I used a 1mm to create the first offset and then used that offset to create another 1 mm offset of it, thus the second offset is 2mm outside
of the original profile. Both are continuos. For some reason it didn't like a 2mm tool diameter.
