MACH TOOL BOX / MACRO- LATHE - ROUGH & FINISH OD - BORING - FACING
« on: October 21, 2010, 10:23:24 PM »
This package contains a set of macros to carry out roughing and finishing, boring, facing for the lathe.
Note there are read me files in the zip folder.

Contained are macros
M71.m1s      External profile roughing and finishing (decreasing X value)
M72.m1s      External rough facing, profiling and finishing  (decreasing Z value)
M77.m1s      Internal rough boring/ profiling and facing   (increasing X value)

Instructor,
G77 & G78 canned cycles do not exist for Mach but may be applicable for a Fanuc or Siemens controller. ???
There are wizards, macros, LazyCam, and Lazyturn code output that you can have a look at for manual coding.

Close maybe.......
You can use any Cad program to draw something and then inport the exported DXF into LC and it will post into Mach without much effort.
Thus you have achieved what you want at min cost.
The more capability desired on the CAD/CAM side of things the more the software cost will be.
Higher end software can get quite expensive .............,

FAQs / Re: I have an IPM problem
« on: October 21, 2010, 05:22:28 PM »
does anyone else have any Ideas how to fix this problem??

Joe,curious about something.
- When you run the driver test at 25000 what frequency does it display for your computer?
Does it change and if so how much?( roughly)
- With Mach open what pulse frequency is displayed in the diagnostics?
Does it change and if so how much?

What program, wizard, or version of Mach are you referring to?

General Mach Discussion / Re: Anyone walk me thru the OD Arc turn wizard?

However its toolpath was going to the positive in Z, this is exerting a pulling force on the chuck.

The first thing i will comment on using the wizards is to be very carefull as to the cutting action for each of the pathing moves. Also what turn mode you are in ( ie ; diameter or radius ) as the code generated will be different. ( i may be wrong, but not sure if some only work in the diameter mode???) Knowing the cutting action, then you need to select the appropriate shaped cutter / oriented correctly to accomplish the cutting. If not you will "gouge" the arc as your cutting it. Try cutting a partial ball in the middle of a shaft. As far as the force, it all depends on what way you want the piece to spring relative to the depth of cut ....and the od2 arc wizard has somewhat the reverse of the od arc wizard.

Frankly i haven't used them in some time now  and i get confused.  ;) If i can find it, i'll post some info relative to them.

how would I go about checking the actual speed

Use a stop watch to time a long axis movement.

General Mach Discussion / Re: Step / Velocity mode

Dave,
To each their owne i guess. I had considered mounting the mpgs on the carriage like a mannual lathe which would give a natural feel in their use
but i didn't. As far as the lathe goes, use the standard screen to get familar, then use Phil's screen set, and you'll appreciate the difference.
Now way off thread .............got to go...... ;)

allow both coarse and fine manual axis adjustment

I just use my MPG's for positioning mostly, sometimes for machining small things. They are not calibrated and 1 turn of the knob
gives about .010" so i can easily adjust position to .0001" when turning it slowly yet on fast turning you can move the axis
rapidly for rough. Two different MPG's are used as one has a higher encoding than the other so the in the case of the lathe the lower
resolution one is used on the Z axis. Velocity mode is checked. The Xbox 360 is really great for moving around with a lot of flexibilty,
such as a crawl to full rapid, but only use it when  tracing out a contour in Copycat.

A little off thread, but FWIW,
