LC has imported other versions of DXF sucessfully, but as stated in the manual is is best to save as a version 12.
DXF is explained at a high level in one of the appendix.

See attached pic. The inside is an elipse drawn in ACAD2000 and saved as a ver 12 DXF. Just for kicks i also did some arcs which would make up an ellipse.
LC  imported both of them with no problems.

Sorry to hear about the pc . May i recommend that you invest in a program like Acronis ( $45 ) and backup the whole pc onto an external independant drive ( they are cheap these days ).
Makes for a complete installation ( does the operating system also )  back to a new pc lin ess than a 1/2 hour.

As always appreciate this thread and the work your do.
I just went over this whole thread searching for some info since I just started fooling with 3d machining.
Now i have an even greater appreciation for the micro work your doing and the equipment required to do it.

Have you checked Porter cable for adpaters?
I needed one for 1/4 to 1/8 for a Dumore handpiece and they wanted  $60 for one.
You can make them, but, to eliminate runout they should be ground.

It may be that the seller is liquidating them and is not an OEM, I don't know.
Will not know unless you try them i guess. The only spec i saw was the grade and that dosen't mean
the hardness of the screw or even the nut is deifined. Those two provide for longevity but may not be that important.

BTW, you have a bunch of money from the lottery  ......how about trying them out for us poor follks and let us know.

The demo's are limited as to the number of lines which will be posted, 50 LC and 500 Mach, so that is what you may be experiencing. There are other limitations
on functionality in LC like offsetting etc.
