General Mach Discussion / Re: Cutting in the wrong place
« on: January 13, 2011, 06:10:59 AM »
Looks like what you drew was drawn away from 0,0,0 based on the generated code, here's your drawing.
You may want to move your drawing ( green box) start point closer to 0,0,0. The pic shows the moves to and away from the
text. So you could select a different start point, drawing wise, and move that point to 0,0,0, .......then all you need to do is move your axis to the start point, zero the axes, and  run the code. That eliminates the long moves pointed to in the pic.

Just a way to do and remember i don't have the foggiest idea what Cut2 does. Maybe you can do the same in Cut2d irrelevant to
how it was drawn.

BR549,
Normaly you know if the steppers have skipped as your can hear it and know you have lost position or steps.
Sometimes the axis will go off on it's owne, but, what i have found here is that when doing small numerous moves that you can loose steps and not hear it
or know about it ( which really supprised me). Mill here never missed a beat in years until i tried doing 3D contouring with it. I think i have figured out my
mills problem but will not muddy up this thread with it. There have been about 3 posts from folks with similar problems in the last six months when they are
contouring something.

Works in progress / Re: THE LATHE PROJECT-2011 - WIZARDS SCREENS ONLY

Scott,
Good thought, so tab, click, select, run, and maybe  click again to to return to a spot ,...i quess i am trying to create or emulate the conversational stuff that was mentioned.

Scott,
That certainly would satisfy a broad range of users. To make things easy I am guessing that you would just delete those items from the most cluttered and generate the simplest
screen keeping common screen items in the same place and same size for all.

Have a look in the manual, appendix "F" section 5.
LT assumes that the center of the tool tip is related to X & Z=0 and pre-compensates the code.

Something which you can try is to put a dwell every so often in the code.
Maybe every 100 lines just add a G4 P5 ( the 5 in P will cause the axis to stop for 5 seconds).
The intent would be to find some code or spot which is causing the burp when machining. Radom stuff can be hard to track down and
this just may narrow it down to a combination of code which can be repeated and thus give you a hint on were or what to look for.

It would be nice if you had a digital display such that you could compare that display to what Mach DRO is showing.
That would show if it is somewhat progressive leading up to a something.

It possible it would be interesting to try swapping the axis around ie; Since it skips on only the x or Y ....let the Z move in place of the X & Y and see what happens.
Another way ,which is may not be an option, would be to run the code on a different machine using the same controller and see if there is any problem.

You are using backlash compensation....correct?

General Mach Discussion / Re: 4th axis setup cheat sheet

RT,
Even if you calc you should try different velocities to see where the rotary will start to skip and adjust max velocity  same as you would do for a linear axis.

Meil,
Attach as Hood requested. Don't know nothing about Cut2d. Some programs let you define where you want to start ( the initial rapid move to a point and then to a point where it will
starts actual cutting). One should always know were they are coming from and going to by having a look at the first few lines of code.

Tangent Corner / Re: Stepepr Motor Noise?

BTW, bet when you get your motors silent you won't have radio interference.....

There are a number of reasons for the interference.
First you need to have something providing the interference and then you need to have a reciever of the interference.
So if you were to try a portable radio and had no interference then you know that  the noise, we'll call it noise since you can't understand the noise when heard, may
be  transmitted through the house wiring, or maybe the radio is picking it up ( antenna, wiring, internal components ) from the air waves. Lets keep it general and assume your "controller system"  is the transmitter. Now you should be able to bring the portable radio with the antenna near the controller system and actualy sense the electric field.
If no noise heard then its its definitely the house wiring. If noise then is it stonger near the box or cables? That would say your shielding is poor. So you should first have shielded
motor cables, the motors are inside a metal case so not coming from the motor body, all the controller components should be inside a metal box.

The best thing to do is eliminate the source of the noise.

How your controller is wired inside can a big difference.
For now...
