The  gcode provides the feedrate value in the program. Have a look at the  gcode and see where they are applied.

Do as Tweakie posted and with the lowered vel and accel values click the Settings Tab and in the lower left corner of the screen you will see
Axis Calibration. Use that to check and set the steps per unit. Make sure you save settings under config. Go out of Mach and come back in, your settings should be what you saved.

Now do a move in one direction and then the opposite to check for backlash.

Let us know how things go for you.

The ones I used are smaller in diameter but taller. ;)

FAQs / Re: power supply capacitors

Should be ok to use. Capacitor should be rated at 20 % higher than power supply output voltage.
Capacitance should be  equal or greater than 80000 x I/V  where I is the current and V is the voltage.

Classic,
I am not that familar with Sketchup ad may be wrong on this, but don't think that the free version will save the file as a ( .STL ).
There are addditional converters out there for Sketchup, sorry but don't have a link to them.
You may want to post  a converted file when you convert it so someone here can have a look and see what it does.
If memory is correct there was a problem with the some them ....Just a heads up.

Maybe someone else will reply who is more knowledgable on it's use.

General Mach Discussion / Re: mach3 backlash
« on: March 04, 2011, 05:19:58 AM »
GUYVER,
0.05M is not that bad for backlash. See if you can tweak your axis and maybe reduce it some.
I just replaced the screw mounting support bearings  in my machine and varying the bearing preload can make a difference.
If you don't have that option then I quess you have what you have.
PLay with 50 50 50 rule as the values seem to be a good starting guideline.

General Mach Discussion / Re: Maximise the speed of your steppers ?
« on: March 03, 2011, 06:43:32 AM »
There is electrical and mechanical resonance involved with all this. Mechanicaly, by adding the damper, one is providing a device to move the resonance point away from where resonance will occur. In analysis, you analyze based on some known  base frequency and then additionaly at harmonics / modes out / up to 16 away or even more. The natural frequency of the system can be calculated  manually, but a computer program is required as it get's complex quick. It becomes difficult to model the system as a number of assumptions need to made based on the system components and how they are made up. More later .....got to go ........

For info,
So I tweaked the amount of bearing preload and adjusted one of the gibb screws  and now can run the code at 60 IPM reliably.
The change in bearing preload put the backlash at .001" which is fine by me. Now I'll change the motor out using ( say 500 or 600 in/oz stepper)  and see how things work. I am not looking for speed as I very seldom machine above 40 IPM. The intent of a different motor would be to have additional torque available when running. The above allows me to reduce part machining time by 12 to 16 hours.

Dennis,
Same as it was last year. Haven't seen a lot of new users and thought that would not be the case after the article on it
was published.

Think I found the problem ....should take my own advice as i so often tell folks it's their machine!  ;)
It's mechanical. Ran the code on the lathe at up to 90 IPM with out a skip or loss of any position. So it's not the code.
The mill is binding more on one side of table travel as compared to the other and thus is enough to cause the skipping.
That was found by trying the code loop at different positions along the bed travel.

Darn.......finaly get the backlash to under .001" after replacing all the bearings in the supports and have to fool more with the
preload and location of the bearing blocks.......PITA.
